His profile has definitely increased since the election officially began. He increased his Facebook likes 50% over the past two week (up by 1,000) and over doubled his youtube views. I think in the next poll you will see him taking a strong run at Barb for second place.
Also interesting that Higgins has seen a large increase in her youtube views but it hasn't translated to as many "likes" on facebook the same way it has for Nenshi. But then again they might not be related at all and could speak to their different demographics.

I think her high youtube stats could be attributed to the fact that each of her 7 platform pieces has a short 45 second youtube clip (which constitute nothing but soundbites of course). That stat is cumulative of all those short videos. Nenshi has basically one main 5 minute youtube video, which has 12,000+ views.

Nenshi has really made inroads in the last 2 weeks. Being identified as one of three contenders for the job in a recent poll has really changed things for him. As has been mentioned, the police chief going after him really helped things, and he's performing better than anyone at the forums.
I'm pretty sure I posted before that I wouldn't vote for him. I'm in the process of changing my mind. If the race is truly between him, Higgins and McIver, Nenshi will get my vote.
The only real problem I still have with him is I expect he's going to spend too much money.

UofC Mayoral Forums on right now streaming @ nutv.ca
Connelly just made the first, and best, dig against McIver;
-basically called him out on flip flopping on the airport tunnel
-Called him out on voting against 8 staight budgets and flip-floping on tax hike
-Called him "that guy you go out to dinner for, and when it comes time to pay, he says he has to go get his wallet from the car, and you never see him again"

Question on preserving heritage sites
Barb: Rambled on about living in a heritage building and not wanting to disclose where in fear of drunk people banging on her door.
Nenshi: Spoke about specific examples and having to putting things into motion is a lot harder, spoke about stephen ave, molson brewery issue etc.
Fetch: Rambled on about visiting Memphis, but was cut off as he ran out of time.

Question just went to McIver about "how to make developers pay for the full lifecycle cost of new developments in suburbs"
McIver: Doesn't want to make new housing too expensive and force people out into surrounding cities.
Hawksworth in reply to McIver: "If all your campaign donations are coming from developers, what stance do you expect him to take?"
BURRRRRNNNNN
Nenshi: Developers not enemies, have to work to get a better balance, 1.5B debt in water/sewer infrastructre

Q: Is Urban Sprawl an Issue
Hawksworth: Yes, but it is due to our choic eand lifestyle. Need to get higher density going, and SE LRT is key (not airport tunnel).
Connelly: Support density in certain areas, basement suites
Barb: Sprawl is issue, support Plan-It, need to work with developers, move more vertical.

Q: Do you support "Race City"
Craig Burrows: Quick Yes
Stewart: No
Barb: Yes, keeps people out of trouble
Nenshi: comical "mayybbee" doesn't support McIver 3.5M subsidy to private corp. But doesn't want city to bully private corps
Fech: McIver is a jerk on this yadda yadda yadda

Q: Blue boxes to apartments/townhouses + composts
Higgins: Yes, need to break contracts to get into multi-units no matter costs.
Johnson: Do it like Europe, get companies bidding on garbage to recycle it.
Hawksworth: Yes, McIver was against it due to cost
McIver: Jerk answer against Hawksworth, went after his expenses
Nenshi: Dig against McIver and his drycleaning bill. Then mentioned that it is a good idea, but you can't break the existing terrible contract already drawn up that prevents multi-units until 2018, as you'd get sued and put other out of business

Intermission update
Fech keeps going after a variety of candidates. Has attacked McIver, Higgins, and Nenshi. The guy is a riot. Might even get a joke vote or 2 after tonight.
Burrows: Guy seems pretty smart and on the money on a lot of things. Makes me wonder why he didn't just run for Ward 6, as he'd be a lock.

Hawksworth won't be helping his single digit vote count with this. Doesn't sound like McIvor or Higgins are helping themselves.
The big question is can Nenshi make up what is a pretty vast polling difference.

Agreed. Right now, I'm so lost living in this Ward 6. I see signs everywhere and yet, no substance. No one has called. Not one pamphlet in the mail. No door knocking. I emailed a couple of the candidates and I've not heard anything.
Connelly did an okay job the last three years. I don't have any real complaints and when I had a question, he got back to me right away.
I was barely of voting age when Burrows was our alderman, but I do like the things he's said in the mayoral forums. However, just by looking at the polls, he's not even close to the top three.
This is the first election I really care about...I'm not sure why. Yet, I'm still lost.
