This game has an interesting way of hooking me. I just can't stop playing it, and I'm not much of a completist in the first place.

Tip:
You can quickly build up your combo meter by trying to take out one of the one armed brother clowns. If you jump behind him, you'll usually be able to get in 5 or 6 strikes before he'll start to begin his swing attack on you. Don't get greedy, go for 5 strikes and then as he begins to turn, jump over him again.
It shouldn't take you too long to get the timing for this, and if you keep doing it until he his defeated, you'll have a great combo built up and won't have to worry about his attacks, which I think are more devastating than even the big titan guys. Then it's just a matter of focusing on the rest of them, using your combat take down (Triangle + Circle) as often as you can.
When the other baddies start to come near you, you'll almost always be able to escape their strike attempts by jumping over the big one armed guy, away from them. You can try to counter them, but only if you're a couple of strikes in, any later and your counter will take too long and the guy will turn and smash/slash you.
My high score on that one is over 100 000 with this method.

How's everyone progressing with the riddler trophies/riddles. I'm at 270/440 right now, but I think that only includes like 3 or 4 Catwoman trophies.

I did it, finally all those damn riddles are done. 408/440. Still have 32 Catwomen trophies/challenges to do, but I'm 400/400 for Batman.
I spent more time doing all the riddles than actually beating the story. Riddle's alone probably took me around 20 hours of playtime. Brutal.
Still only got 72% of the game done though. Still need like 169 stars from the Riddler's Revenge combat/predator challenges.

Thats incredible. Did you use a walkthrough for any/all of it? I'm considering it on the ones near the end that start to tick me off

There was way too many riddler trophies to find. Turned into a grind after a while.

I really enjoyed getting all the trophies, but that's the kind of stuff I like.
Completionist and perfectionist by nature I guess.

I had to youtube about 20 of them because I couldn't figure them out at all. Most of them are straight forward, it mostly just takes a lot of time.
I'm starting my New Game + now and I'm upset I can't change the difficulty. I originally did it on Hard and thought I could change it to normal for the NG+, but I was wrong and now I'm really regretting it as I know some of the fights on just Hard gave me problems (particularly the last Joker brawl with his minions).
The end brawl with Joker and his minions is going to be near impossible without the counter icons. I can usually tell anyway when I need to counter, but when there are 15 of them, 5 with shields, a Titan, 2 guys with knives, and then the multiple projectiles, just thinking about gets me irritated. Going to be one hell of a fight.

If you do the challenge medals you'll get really, really good at fighting. I don't understand how people hammer through those so quickly... it's taken me probably close to 20 hours to get where I am and I still have 4 very hard challenges ahead of me.
For the times when you don't get the counter icons, try and just jump over the guys instead. It doesn't allow for the monster combos as easy imo, but in the game itself it won't matter. I've only run into one instance in the medals where you HAVE to fight without counter icons for points. It's obnoxious, but at least it's only one.

You just have to get used to the timing of it.
Trying to throw 3 strikes before countering is a great way to get hit.
My fighting ability improved significantly when I started to make better use of jumping and cape stunning.
You don't ALWAYS have to hit a guy. You're batman, you can just disorient them and save 'em for later.
I think I am going to play Batman right now.

I can get huge combo's (like 60+ with a big group), but the one I had problems was the damn Assassin's one where all the chicks have swords. I hate countering knifed weapons.
You need a lot of patience for those challenges as you basically need to go Perfect Knight to get the 3 gold medals for most of them.

I disagree on the Perfect Knight thing. I would argue if you can consistently string a 40-60 hit combo in one of the 4 rounds you have a very good shot at getting 3 metals.

Depends, on the "Extreme" ones you almost need perfect combos and string together a big variation bonus to get the points needed.
I sucked for three rounds of (I think the 4th challenge), but got Perfect Knight and a perfect combo with 10 variation bonus in the last round which got me the 3 gold medals.
The Combat Challenges are brutal though, even though I can string together big combos, I have no idea how I'm going to get these enormous scores. My combos are almost always haltered by the shield goons, I always end up punching one by mistake which wipes out my combo.
The Predator Challenges on the other hand I am just zipping through. Just did the first 6 in about 30 minutes, now on to the Extreme ones which I know will give me problems.

Happy to report I finished the final combat missions last night all with my "single massive combo" strategy. The handicaps in the campaign challenges are hell, but just keep practicing and you'll destroy it. I definitely focus on getting my first 8-10 hits and then going directly after the shield or taser guys and breaking their weapon.

Did you get to the Extreme Pedator one's yet? Holy fata some of those are ridiculously difficult. I've spent the last 2 hours on two of them (one which I still couldn't do). All 8 guys with guns, always a backpack jammer (which you have to leave til the end for most of them), plus difficult takedowns = turning the xbox off.

There are ways to do each predator level, you just need to figure out an order that works for you. The ones in the train yard, top of the world and mr. Freezes lab are the worst for me. Just look at YouTubes of the levels, there's some insanely skilled people out there.
I totally get the length of time thing. Top of the world has probably eaten up close to 5 hours alone. The sheer amount of guys you have to deal with is incredible. Mr. Freeze's lab had that damn inverted ledge takedown that never seems to work and always draws attention and the train yard seems to require a series of moves that almost require pure muscle memory on the controls.
Post which one is giving you hell, we can give you a hand.

FUUUUUUUU!!! It happened to me to yesterday. I was at about 55% and then randomly the saved game is gone. I googled the problem and I guess its a major issue for lots of people who paid for this game. F this, I read about a guy who lost his saved game 3 times in the same spot. I'm not putting this game back in until a patch comes out. A real shame, I was loving this game, especially in 3D.

I've put so much time into this game I've actually been backing up my game save periodically. I didn't actually know of the glitch, I was just doing it because I'm officially the only one of my friends with an original launch PS3 still running. I'm expecting it to die out any day now.
Edit: The final Riddler campaign is quite the challenge. I found a message board post with pointers, but it should be an adventure.
Edit 2: Finished the Riddler campaigns. I still have a bunch of little stuff to do, but that should be the end of the super hard stuff. Took me close to 2 hours to finally get the final mission completed. As fulfilling a gaming experience I've had in some time. I've finished my share of games before, but I don't recall working quite this hard at one. Pretty much just need to do my calendar man stuff, a few combat riddler trophies and finish the new game + (which seems laughably simple now that I've done everything else).
