Apparently a very good one, right frinkprof
Ahh, Ride the Wind, sounds refreshing doesn't it... Like snuggling Mother Nature's bosom & falling asleep knowing your train is powered by the wind.

You only make yourself look a fool Pinner if you strip a comment of all context to try and gloat.
The marketing gimmick is the argument that the LRTs themselves are wind powered, a statement only the most naive or disingenous would state with any seriousness. That CT did ensure that enough infrastructure was placed to allow the equivalent of their power usage to be generated via wind rather than coal is fact.

It's always windy where the bulk of our windmills are.
In the end, Ride the Wind is a marketing gimmick, but it is a fair one. The demand and use was already there. They just helped bring more windmills online to reduce reliance on coal.
|
Well that's the entire quote. Full of the context...
If you really think the C-Train and the "Ride the Wind" Program is responsible for bringing windmills online, great. (but I'm the fool)
I think it's a gimmick and the windmills would be built without the C-Train.
Alberta imports about 3 times as much electricity as it exports, I'm thinking the "Ride the Wind" program is a marketing gimmick, and not really responsible for the windmills, but that's just my opinion.

Hand-tinted photograph of buildings and dam at Horseshoe Falls on the Bow River, developed as a source of hydroelectric power for the City of Calgary. It was developed by the Calgary Power and Transmission company, which became part of the Calgary Power Company Ltd., on the Bow River near Seebe, Alberta. The first power from the plant arrived in Calgary on Sunday May 21, 1911.
Ok, Immma finished.

That has to be the Hart family. Keith has such a distinctive look.

You can see the remnants of the platforms poking out from either side of the Tower Parkade on some satellite images:
http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=51.04....8&r=0&src=msl
Although though to tell, the tunnels look covered over. Of course, that doesn't really answer the question as to whether or not they are still there underneath.
I'd love to see what kind of leftovers are down there. I really can't imagine Calgary even having any sort of passenger rail, especially the volume that would require multiple platforms. I believe that the Rocky Mountaineer still uses the station, however.

Wayne and Dean are the other boys. My dad went to school with the older Harts. My dad tells a story that he and Wayne Hart (of the boys, probably the one least involved in wrestling) skipped school one day to play pool. Stu found out, walks into the pool hall, picks up Wayne (my dad says by the throat/shirt with one hand, but that might be embellishing), holds him against the wall and growls "get back to school."
On a related note, Ernest Manning High School, where the Hart children and I'm sure many members of this board went will be closing at the end of this next school year. It will be replaced by the new Ernest Manning High Schoool near 69th Street and 17th Ave. SW. They are having an event in a few months to celebrate the history of the school. Open to all alumni of the school:

You can see entrances to go down and under the platforms. Left most track bottom.
