Came to see what other people thought of the double down and I'm leaving with a lunch date to get a Bacon Mushroom Melt or two from Wendy's tomorrow at noon!
I love CP!

Oh I bet people routinely eat stuff worse than this without realizing it. Alfredo from a restaurant or nachos at a flames game are probably far worse. Actually the nachos are almost certainly worse.

After reading through this thread, I decided to have one at Chinook for lunch.
From a taste perspective, I will echo the comment that it starts off fine but gets too soggy near the end. It was overall enjoyable, until about 15 minutes later when I started feeling ill.
I think this is how alcoholics feel when they wake up in an alley and realize they've hit rock bottom. I don't know that any food item has ever given me chest pains before. I will never have one again.
On the plus side, eating this thing has made me question where my life is going.

Had one for lunch today - I just had to try it. This thing is like something you eat on a dare.
It actually tasted pretty good, even if it does sit in your gut like a brick afterwards. It would have been excellent if it wasn't so salty - is there any way they can tone down the saltiness? 7 bucks for this thing is pretty steep as well. For that amount, I'll hit Quiznos next time.

An update.

KFC predicts more than 350,000 Double Downs will be sold in Canada by Oct. 31, making it the company’s biggest new-menu success ever.
The diet-destroying dish was launched in Canada on Oct. 18. While low in carbs, the Double Down has 540 calories, 30 grams of fat and a whopping 1,740 milligrams of sodium.

As bad as fast food in general is, I fail to see why such a big deal is being made out of this as such a 'diet killer'.
There's little carbs in it, and compare the stats on it to the average BK Whopper. With the exception of sodium, the Double Down is the way better option:
BK Whopper
670 Calories
40g Fat
11g Sat/1g Trans
75mg Cholesterol
28g Protein
11g Sugar
51g Carbs
970mg sodium
KFC Double Down
540 Calories
30g Fat
8.2g Sat/0.5 Trans
150mg Cholesterol
1740mg Sodium
17g carbs
1g Sugar
50g Protein
That being said, I'm not suggesting that the KFC DD is a healthy alternative, but it's certainly not as bad as it's being made out to be.

Had my 1st Canadian one today (had one when they first came out somewhere en route to Florida). They are tasty, but as many have said too salty. Mine was crisp until the end though, and Canadian chicken is better than the fat filled crap in the States. Seriuosly, chicken in the States is so fatty comparitively.
The worst part of this is that I got it at the KFC/Taco Bell combo, which meant I got Fries Supreme to go with it. Add that to the 6 pack of beer or 6 oz. of rye I will consume while watching the game tonight and that is a lot of calories before counting breakfast an dinner.
Ugh.

twice the cholesterol and twice the sodium
yikes, that has got to be close to 100% of the daily reccomended intake of sodium, that is why it is bad. less calories and fat then the whopper though (although, I have a whopper once in about 5 years)

I avoid fast food like the plague. It seems like all of these fast food companies are trying to kill their customers. I know some of them offer salads, etc., but the salads come with dressings that are absolutely horrible for you. Just say no to any of this crap.
As for Canadian chicken vs. American chicken - I agree Canadian chicken is better. Some of the chicken we've had in the states is absolutely disgusting - ie - extremely fatty and greasy.

That's more than the daily recommended intake of Sodium. You should try and keep it under 1500 mg.

50% of the Cholesterol (300 mg) and 76% of the Sodium (2300 mg)
Also on the "scary side" are fat (46%), saturated fat (41%), and protein (100%)

Sodium is not THAT bad for you. If you're an active person and drink some water on occasion you'll have no problem with the sodium. For comparison a 1L bottle of gatorade has close to 500mg of sodium! Like Mad Mel said you're no worse off eating a pound of wings yet somehow that doesn't get any where near the bad press as this thing.
If you've ever accidently swallowed a mouth full of sea water you've probably had more sodium in a single swallow then a double down!

Forgot to post in here, I had it last Friday. Actually wasn't as bad as I was expecting (though its clearly not good for you, just plugged me right up after). Don't know if I'd have one again, but I've def felt sicker from McDick's & Taco Bell than I did off the Double Down. All the ruckus about it is because of the presentation I think. Replace the bun with 2 pieces of chicken and you'll get some noise.
