I downloaded season 1-4 after watching some of these shows on TV recently. I love Barney, he is hillarious

I have been watching How I Met Your Mother since the beginning. Great show, however I find this season has been a little sub-par. I know they have the talent there though to knock an episode out of the park at any time.
Love the hockey themes with Robyn...which are not quite there yet this season.

A little too much "Glee" type stuff lately....not everything has to turn into a musical act. Same thing's happening with the Office.

I know people seem to think the show has lost some steam and maybe it has. Personally I am still very interested in it and most of it (for me anyways) is the writing. I think the writing in this show is better than any other show on tv right now. The way everything connects together.
EX. First episode of last season Ted accidently whips Marshall. And Marshall tells him that he'll whip him at some point. I know that that is going to happen at some point and I eagerly anticipate it. Along with the final slap. Its things like that that make the show unique. A very difficult show to put together IMO

The one thing I can't get over is how bad of an architect Ted is. His GNB headquarters looks like it was designed by Mike Brady.
Down with Mosbius Designs.

Except it had been done earlier by family guy where Brian threatened revenge on Stewied for lighting him on fire and beating him with a tire iron, and we didn't see that revenge punch for nerely a year.
I gave up on HIMYM Ted is one of the worst comedy characters ever now. Even Barney can't save the show, once they gave him that humanity he went from being the great comedy caraciture (sp?) to just a overcompensating doofus.

yeah, one example from a cartoon that specializes in random jokes, means nothing compared to the continuity they go into on that show.
The slap bet, the brief mention of a goat when Ted got confused which birthday it happend at, and then showing it a year later, the dopplegangers. There are so many jokes that tie back to previous episodes it's ridiculous.
Not to mention Barney's Blog, the books, and the fact that every time they mention a website on the show, they actually create that website.
Hell, they even did the best job ever dealing with a pregnant cast member.
Barney tells a horrible joke, and Ted tell's the kids "After that, we didn't see your aunt Lilly for 4 weeks", and boom Hannigan, is not in the next 4 episodes, that's pure gold.

Show has lost steam, first season was really funny but had lots of heart. Now its pretty much the same old jokes rehashed again and again.

agreed. Another good example of the mention of the washcloth and how Robyn wasn't living with him at the time so he was thinking of a different story. And then boom....in march of 2009 (just like date said in the earlier episode) the goat appears. The continuity in this show is incredible.

Usually when a show changes times or days it means the end of it's greatness.

I do love all the Canadian references though. That one episode where they went to Tim Hortons still ranks up there for my favorite epsisode of the series.
And I do agree that the continuity in the show is quite refreshing for a sitcom. It's like watching one long story book, and the way it's set up, that's probably what the writers are going for.
I honestly think I'm losing a bit of interest in the show because I just don't like Ted. As each season goes by, he gets more and more annoying. I wish he wasn't such a central figure in the show. But at least the rest of the characters makes the series still worth watching for me. At least it does for the time being. In another couple of seasons (if it goes that long), who knows.

When did this show change days or times?
Also, The Big Bang Theory called, from their new time slot on Thursday.
They said "Suck it!"

In 2008 they switched time slots with Big Bang Theory. I think it was a mid-season change but ever since that move the show hasn't been as good IMHO.

Ted is to HIMYM as Ross is to Friends. The longer it goes on, the more of an annoying wimp the character gets.

Anyone that watches Top Gear will know what I'm talking about...
But Barney needs to be like the Stig; he needs to transcend being just a person in a suit. For the first couple of seasons he was just that. You didn't get to know much about the guy, what he did...how he managed to be awesome.
The less you know about the character's background the better, that way you focus on his/her/it's awesome exploits.

I agree wholeheartedly, it was no different from learning and understanding about the Cylons in Battlestar Galactica, or The Others in Lost. It's the reason why the Joker in The Dark Knight was so great. You don't know their backstory, you just see actions the main characters are intended to see.
In the second last episode Barney was talking about how he Allllllways gets the yes. Then we see him getting the yes from girls and then in the end in the main plotline. However, if we see him get shot down 100 times for every time he gets the yes, well then it sucks. We just want to see him brag about getting the yes.

I agree, but 6 seasons in and they'll need to do something with his character.
I thought this weeks episode was good, everything up to it sucked though.
