Not a Jays related article, but wasn't sure where to put it. Figured it would get more potential response in a thread such as this versus on its own. Anyway just found this interesting:
http://tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=269316&l...headlines_main
Jim Bowden resigned Sunday after four seasons as the Washington Nationals general manager, leaving under the cloud of a federal investigation into the skimming of signing bonuses given to Latin American prospects. He has maintained his innocence in the matter, but said Sunday, "I've become a distraction."
...
He met last year with FBI investigators looking into allegations of skimming of signing bonuses and it was reported last weekend by SI.com that Bowden's actions are being looked at as far back as 1994, when he was GM of the Cincinnati Reds.

Statistically, the Jays should be an average offensive club.

Be an optimistic but really is there a chance?
Yankees have reloaded, they will at least contend for a playoff spot.
Red Sox and still GOOD
Rays will be solid again.
Forget this year, is there even hope for next few years? unless an actual hard cap comes in or Jays get lucky with drafting. Neither likely to happen.

Yep, no chance... but I like to watch the young players.. I am hoping Cecil and Synder make the openning day roster.
So I am still looking forward to the season..... will watch lots of games...

^Yup and at least this year you can head into the season with no expectations. Last year for reasons that now escape me, I thought they had at least a chance.

Yep, just like watching the Expos, really looking forward to watching Snider, think this kid is the real deal. Besides, it will be hard for the kids to hit any worse than the vets did last season.

I'd say they have a 2% shot at the division and a 10% shot at the wild card.
I expect the Rays to slump, the Yanks to continue to be clowns, and the BoSox to win the division. The Jays are going to get beat up too often against divisional foes (including the Orioles) to be wild card candidates. If we were in any other division......

I still think the Jays should sign Barry Bonds as a DH. The stupid court thing is going to drag on forever and then nothing will come of it. Other great players have come out of the woodwork and we still have over 100 that tested positive we don't know about. The guy has apparently stayed in shape, is IMO the greatest hitter ever in baseball, juiced or not. Not only that he puts fans in the seats.

Problem is do you want Bonds around young players like Lind, Sinder, Cecil (if he makes it)... etc.
Personally I would not want him on the team.....
Jays need to go with a youth movement this year and don't need a cancer personality like Bonds in the dugout IMO.

We needed him last year. This year he'd be taking playing time away from Lind or Snider, whom we are counting on to contribute in '10 when the division title is realistic.

Jays may need to send him down to the Farm to try to work out his problems... They would be crazy to give him the closer role.

If Ryan's velocity is less than 90 miles per hour he's not much more than a left handed specialist. His control and selection of pitches isn't good enough to face 4 right handed batters and expect to get 3 of them out Than again, closers and saves are a bit over rated. Scott Downs for the most part got a lot of tough outs when the Jays needed them, so they might be as well to use him for those again this year. Just don't make the mistake of leaving a guy like Ryan in there to get the save if you need to get two right handed hitters out to close out the game.

Rumours are his velocity is in the mid 80's.

Rumours...the damn Radar guns are saying 84 to 87. It's still spring and the season is another week away. But if that velocity doesn't come up than there is reason for concern.

Yep, I missed that statement in that article. As for the season, its under a week away. Jays have 5 exhibition games left, of which I would think he gets appearances in two of them. So there is very little time to make any changes...
Of note Ryan pitched yesterday and gave up 1 run and 2 hits in 1 inning.
JP and Cito are going to have to make a hard decision....

I'm stealing this idea from the Blue Jays Round Table articles found here:
http://mopupduty.com/index.php/super...-table-part-2/
In order, your Jays MVP, Pitcher of the Year, ROY, & Surprise of 2009. These are mine:
MVP - Rios
POY - Doc
ROY - Snider
Surprise of 09 - Aaron Hill back to his previous glory
BTW I would have said Halladay for MVP as well as POY but I have a feeling he is gone by the trade deadline.
