I'd also be inclined to give the furnace a break. I you have an electric oven turn it on and let it warm up for a few minutes. Leave the door open so there is still some heat going into the house, and shut the furnace off for 20 or 30 minutes. Do not leave the oven on unattended; nor for an extended period of time.

Other options in the mean time include shutting doors into rooms you don't use and shutting off the vents and the cold air returns in those rooms. (You may need to put a pillow in front of the C/A return to close it.) I'd also look at getting an electric portable heater- not only to help out in minor emergencies like this, but I also use mine to cut down on my energy costs by only heating the room I'm in- like heating the bedroom when I am done with the rest of the house for the night.

a space heater is $$. Our boiler went out a week or 2 ago and 2 of the 30 buck ones from Canadian tire kept out bedrooms and living room bearable untill we got the new boiler pump installed.

It's not that bad actually, we did the windows on our duplex last year. They had the vinyl slider kinds, so we just measured the openings, ordered custom made vinyl inserts, and then slid them in after removing the vinyl sliders. No fuss, no cutting. Each window took maybe 30 minutes to do, including a bit of caulking to cover any gaps and the expanding foam. We went back later and did some wood trim to cover the gap from the outside (the openings were wider at the outside than the inside).

Each window was pretty normal sized, 40" x 60" or so, and each one cost less than $250 from Lux.

Made a pretty huge difference.

It's okay, because it is a dry cold.

Check the filter again.... 3 months is plenty of time ofr a filter to get clogged up... especially if you have been doing renovations recently.

Also... check all the diffusers in the house... make sure they are blowing heat.... you can shut a few of the non-essential ones off to heat specific parts of the house...

Apparently a pipe burst in the Black Lounge's kitchen overnight. Folks had to clean up quite a bit of water this morning.

LOL, yes I remember that!

I remember one winter in Calgary shortly after I moved there, so probably 82, that I could not drive my car for a week, because we had a cold spell like that where the temps were in the -30's and my car was dead!
I didn't know anything about block heaters, until that happened to me.
Was living just near Stanley Park (don't know if it is still called that) and walking to that closest LRT station was a killer. Got my first down filled coat shortly after that too.

pipe in brewster hall at the uni burst (probably cause somebody left a window open). damaged the fire alarms and it was going off randomly till 8 or 9 and the residents still had to evacuate or risk the huge fine. owned!

Think about the street people!!

For god's sake wont anyone think about the street people??

Seriously though, I almost gave one dude a bowl of Tim's soup today.

Instead I just gave him the money to buy it so he could stay in the building for a while.

I thought I was gonna have to have my legs amputated tonight. I left work at 6:40 for my bus stop on 9th Ave along the big parking lot. The 6:52 bus never showed up and I eventually just got on a random bus cause I couldnt take it anymore. When I got on the bus I asked her what time it was...7:10.

I had winter boots and parka, hat, scarf and all that but was just wearing standard dress pants. She eventually dropped me near a train station but I had to wait almost another 10 minutes for the train to show up. I didnt get home until about 8:15 and my legs still feel off. Kinda tingly and itchy and still a tad numb. Hope I didnt do any great damage.

Last night I was running from my car into a building and it felt like my heels were going to shatter. Imagine that. I had to run on my toes.

Well we got slammed here last night with a cold front. 90 km/hour winds and flash freezing, power outages, etc. With the wind chill today it is going to be -24 which is pretty cold around here.
After me saying how nice it was here yesterday!
