Wait, I never bothered to ask you, peter, why you hate drivers like me. Is it because you figure that you own the road and that you can decide how fast I may drive? What makes you think that you can hold me back from going a few clicks over (yeah, 5, 10 or 40)?

Seriously. Stay the FORK out of the fast lane or you're getting my highbeams and grille in your rearview. I frickin dare you to hit the brakes. My bumper can be fixed. Can your neck? Oh, that'll teach me a reel good lessun...

After driving in Toronto, I'm completely flip flopping on my position.

First of all, a lot of people have no respect for solid white lines. I've almost gotten into 3 or 4 accidents because I waited till the solid line turned dotted before getting into a gap, while some idiot 5 cars behind guns it to get to the same gap I'm going into.

Second of all, speeders are seriously s. Usually it's bumper to bumper traffic, this means that there is NO ROOM between me and the car in front of me. Yet, these ricers will just cut in anyways, knowing that I'm going to slow down. They're right too, because I don't want to get into all that hassle, and wreck my car in the process, even if it's their fault.

I was so mad when I was in the left lane of the 401 going towards the express (it's an exit, not exactly the outside lane) doing about 115, and some idiot comes up doing at least 150 behind me, throws up his arms, and starts weaving back and forth behind me, flashing his high beams. He tried to get around me, and I boxed his ass in, not allowing him to get back into my lane.

I mean, I speed too - but I do it while respecting other driver's right to drive their own way, and following the rules of the road. God that solid white line thing makes me so mad, it's SO dangerous, yet all these speeders think is "Wow the people ahead of me are so slow".

Your grill can be fixed. I can make sure you never own a house ever again.

Seriously, I'm not going to get myself into an accident just to teach you a lesson, I will go after you in a legal sense. It's worked for me before.

Just watch yourself, you don't own the ing road. If I choose to 110 in your "fast lane", that's my right. You want to get your "grill" in my rearview, I'm not going to just take it.

This is the real essence of what I'm saying. Well, except for the 'following the rules of the road' part. I guess I'm a criminal because on days like today, I can cruise the deerfoot at 130kph while peter12 is going 99.5kph.

Honestly, it is so forking frustrating that people figure that they can decide my speed for me, or that they're too ignorant to get the hell out of my way when I'm bearing down in the fast lane. Wake the ###### up and watch your mirrors. If you need driving lessons, take a trip to Europe.

Haha, not at all. I'm not intending to sound tough or anything. My point is, you don't own the road. Stop trying to act tough about how fast you can go in your big truck on Deerfoot. You sound like a 16 year old with a 4 inch erection. That's my point.

Really now... Funny thing is that MY point is also that YOU don't own the road. And for clarity sake, my truck ain't big, but you'll sure feel it hitting your Hyundai's rear end. As for my 4 incher... Well, I'm confident enough to just let that comment slide.

But I do own the road, if I'm going the speed limit. Anyway, just be safe is what counts, I guess.

Sorry, I'm just having so much fun with this, I'd like to trash you a little more...

You'll make sure I never own a house again? Funny because I've never owned one before. You see, there are things called "companies". People that are self employed "own" them. Then they use these "companies" to buy things like houses and trucks with highbeams and grilles.

Now, your "legal sense" is a little intimidating. Did your Papa's lawyer sue the old man down the street for your pain and suffering? Or did you teach a big, dumb redneck like me a lesson by hitting the brakes? How's your neck these days? Is it feeling better with that five dollar bill being rubbed against it?

As for me "watching myself". You're damn right I will. I'll watch myself pass your slow azz in the middle lane. I know the Hyundai can't break the 111kph barrier, but the Jimmy can. So why don't you just stop causing yourself unnecessary anger and move over? Why must you drive slower than the pace of traffic in the fast lane? WHY? WHAT THE HELL? Just move over and let the fast people go fast, the regular people go... regular, and the slow people go slow. To each his (and her) own.

4X4, you would fit right in with the Edmonton drivers it seems... along with their huge trucks and ego's to go with them. I'm not going to be like Peter 12 and get in a pissing match with you either, as it seems it's a moot point to get across to you.

Right-o blackie... Just stay out of the fast lane, or else keep pace with traffic and I'm happy.

It's threads like this that make me wish I had some admin powers haha.

I think there are some asshat drivers that weave, speed too much, and are generally dangerous to the rest of us. But what I do is not dangerous. What a lot of people do is not dangerous unless some slow guy decides he wants to impede the faster drivers because he wants to have his jollies. Those are the guys who get cut off when I get my chance. They deserve it, trying to act like they are the traffic police. Get a life.

I also think that slow drivers, inexperienced drivers, and people who don't have as good driving skills are just as dangerous as those who are mentioned above.

My whole point in this thread, and I hope people understand that, is that I am on the top limit of speeding and confident driving that gets me places, lets me change lanes, and causes me no nervousness or aprehension about driving. I think lots of drivers on here like to go the speed limit and then complain when someone else choses to speed. Get over yourself, what makes you the boss? Just because you like going the speed limit doesn't mean you have to vilify (sp?) those who like to speed a bit. If you go under the speed limit in perfectly clear conditions, then you need to be aware you are disrupting traffic more than someone who is speeding by the same value.

Do you think jaywalking is wrong? Under-age drinking? Public drunkeness? Speeding? Taking office supplies from work? If you think speeding is the devils work and the rest are ok then give your head a shake. Those things above are what people do every day, yet technically illegal. People who complain about fast drivers are usually the biggest hypocrites in the rest of their life. Learn how to drive, or don't mess with those who like to go fast.

Perfectly stated, Redvan. That is pretty much what I wanted to say, but I said something else. Must be that pent-up road rage.

how about this one ...

dude in fast lane is going speed limit give or take and there is a gap available to pass the car on the right, change lanes and then get ahead of the car in the left lane. the guy in right lane decides to speed up before you can safely squeeze into the right lane.

i bet you speeders just love that! (even though you arent supposed to pass on the right).

what is the guy in the left lane doing wrong? the speed limit?
what is the guy in the right lane doing wrong? the speed limit?

i have seen this cause quite the road rage though.

Those are the guys that really, really tick me off. You were perfectly happy doing whatever speed you were doing, but when you see that someone might want to occupy that couple-car-length space in front of you, you have to pin it and close the gap. There is absolutely no reason for it.

I'm not a big speeder, and there's little that drives me nuts on the road, but this is one of them.

My ex-girlfriend and I have had this argument about 350 times. She's a speeder who gets pissed off when somebody isn't going fast enough in the left lane, and I'm (for the most part) a speed-limit-abider, who has no problem going 10-15% over the speed limit at times, or simply moving with the speed of traffic, but also feels that excessive speeding is dangerous, and make no attempts to change the way I drive for those who choose to go 25% or more above the posted limit.

I have learned two things through the course of all those arguments.

1- You cannot win an argument with a woman.

and

2- Whether you're a speeder or a speed-limit-abider (or simply a flow-of-traffic kind of driver like me), everybody needs to just chill the funk out on the road. Because the alternative is aggressive driving, which leads to accidents.

Speeders- if somebody is in the left lane, going 115 km/h in a 100 km/h zone, and you wanna go 140 km/h, chill out. He's not breaking any laws, and he certainly doesn't have to cater to you and your desire to speed. If you're a smart speeder, you'll find a safe way around him if you're patient. Or, god forbid, you might just have to take a deep breath and stay behind him for a few clicks. Not the end of the world.

And S-L-A's, if a speeder comes cruising up behind you, you're only making things more dangerous if you choose to alter your driving simply to "get back at him" or prevent him from passing you, or whatever. Let them blow by you. Stay alert and assertive, and don't let your emotions take over. You're not the police.

Don't get me wrong, if a guy is going barely the speed limit or under it, he should make every attempt to let you pass (get in the right lane jackass!). But it doesn't help the situation when the speeder is flailing his arms and flashing his lights, and lets his aggression take over. Everybody needs a double shot of calm, with a relaxation chaser.

I like what Ro wrote... Sums it up very well. It's all about respect, folks. In the morning and the evening, there are too many cars on the road for the lead footed to get their kicks. Just keep pace with traffic and everyone's happy.

In the mid afternoon and after dinner, there are few cars on the road. This is the time that we return to highway mode. Vacate the fast lane if someone is going faster than you. It's really not that difficult. I know you all think I'm a psychopath that goes warp 9 in a one-ton, but really, I'm speaking for the people in the world that are capable of going 10 or 20 over on long, flat, wide roads.

I really don't think that it's too much to ask that people glance in their mirrors every 10 seconds or so. If you see a faster vehicle approaching, move over. If there are alot of cars on the road, just keep pace with your lane. It's so simple. Yet so many people think they're the police. People want to take matters into their own hands and "hit the brakes" and whatnot. It really baffles me.

Most of the people that get out and cruise at 105 in the left lane on Deerfoot aren't the kind of people who regularly check their rear-views to keep up with the pulse of traffic.

That's the thing that irks me the most. Everyone on the road has a responsibility to drive safely and interfere as little as possible with other people's trips. The road doesn't exist to ferry you to your destination at whatever speed you feel necessary.

Example: you are driving to Edmonton. Your ideal speed on that highway is 110 km/h. You come up behind someone doing about 105, and pull out to pass. You don't speed up whatsoever, you just mosey on into the left lane and mosey on by your obstruction. Meanwhile, three cars behind you who like to travel at 125-135km/h are stuck behind your slow ass because you don't give a flying fack at a rolling donut about anybody on the road but yourself. Now those fast drivers are annoyed, following too close, and are eager to get around you leading to possibly unsafe passes/lane changes.

Get my point? Just because you drive exactly the speed limit all the time doesn't mean you're the best driver on the road.
