I did not pay $1200, good lord id never spend that much. I paid $750 and had it for a month. But the fact is im learning to sacrifice stuff, and using my cheaper phone that i have right now. Im learning that expensive toys doesnt get you anywhere in life and you can live without them. This $600 is going right to my savings.

It's at least a step in the right direction.
Now, with that $1800 ... hmm ...
I need: one new suit, patio furniture, sod for my back yard. Ta-da!

That $1800 is now down to $1200. And I still plan on bringing it down even more right away. Im still waiting for a buyer on the LCDTV.

Hmmm, for $1800 I could buy a washing machine, some carpet, do some electrical work, some paint, and put it all in my rental property. I think that's what I'll do! I might even have some money left over to pay for property taxes in the first month!!
My life is so exciting. I wish I had a $1200 phone...

I would put the $1800 towards rent and bills. I would maybe buy a new pair of runners though. I got a good 6 years out of my old ones but I think it's time for a new pair.

this thing is a comedy of epic proportions. The lyrics to "Material Girl" keep going through my head. The priorities in your life seem to be just a tad materialistic (and by tad I'm being very kind). MissKat is the only one who can change that.

So is it going to be all about the attention now?
There is a pic seen fairly often around FARK and other places that I would LOVE to post...but that wouldn't be setting a good example.

She got it from a guy friend who took it off her hands for 600.
Now she's looking to offload an LCDTV.
Buy books and read through them. (although spending $35 on the latest robert jordan tp can be questionable)
Books that you say you have read front to back can also be an accomplishment. However, finding help on an internet board is still akin to asking for help from masked strangers.
The best thing to do right now, (if you're still young) is to ask what do I want and what am I doing to get it.
Do you have sufficient technique to get what you want? If you don't have a skill, then go learn one, even if it is just being able to shoot 4-for-4 on hockey targets. The other part is that in order to learn this skill, you got to be able to show it off and when you are shown to be a chump, you got to not quit. ... You must find a place where that even if you fail, you won't give up.
Also sometimes people repeat the same thing over and over again to understand the process that occurs to cause the failure so they can properly avoid making the mistake again.

Riiiiiiight... how very wise and mystic. If this topic were about anything but superficial spending habits I might have been obliged to leave this last part of advice alone. But come on now.
Misskat, don't worry about heeding this advice. I can pretty much TELL you what is causing this "process" to "fail" so that you can "properly avoid making the mistake again".
Stop spending money on materialistic items.

If you can afford it, it isn't selfish. If you can't then it is. For example, we've had a number of scares recently with my father so I started asking questions and found out my parents are in a tonne of debt. That, combined with the inheritance taxes on the half a million dollar slab of land my parents live on will leave us, (their children,) in quite a bind when my dad does pass on. It's morbid to think about but also necessary. What they've done to us is selfish. I have to plan for my own future, and now I need a plan for dealing with said inheritance taxes and whatnot.
I really shouldn't be one to talk with my shoe fetish and my accumulating debt, but having all this happen right now is a serious eye-opener for me in regards to my own spending habits. It's certainly not a position I'm willing to put my children into.

You're right. It was a malformed argument that people can consciously affect changes in their behaviour by repeated stimulation of certain neural processes that will inhibit or make the brain used to said exposures. (Eg. conquering a fear of snakes)
What Misskat presents are her feelings, and she's trying to sort through them, and feelings are more insane than logic. That's what I've observed anyways. The feelings can't be explained, but they must be named so that they can be defeated.

Sidebar irony . . . . . some riff raff disturbed our idyllic country living last night, busting into the vehicles of both my wife and myself (okay, they were unlocked) and swiping my cellphone. Nothing else. Just the phone. I guess they didn't want the Lyle Lovett CD's or my latest Bee Gees purchase.
Anyhoo, MissKat, I'm now cellphoneless and . . . . . no, wait, stay away from me . . . . . I . . . will . . . . . not . . . . . succumb . . . . to . . . . . your . . . . . private . . . . . hell!!!

Did you call to make sure your phone was suspended? Call the police so they can trace the calls? If you're with Telus, I could suspend your phone right now for you just to make sure the riff raff doesn't rack up your bill... PM me and let me know if you'd like.

Here's a novel idea: get your parents to stop giving you money and lock your bank account.
You can't seem to get any of the advice to work for you. Maybe douse of cold water will help.
