Its like booing the refs...like they should have blown the whistle. (called a penalty) Any time a Euro gets touched they whistle like crazy. Or if they do call a penalty against the home side they don't think should be a penalty they whislte the whole PP. Super annoying, especially on a perfectly clean hit or on an obvious call like the trip on Bennett.

Friedman reporting that Fiala's injury is indeed season-ending.

Team Canada at +9 goal differential.
Team USA at +7 goal differential.
Team Canada plays France as their last game before the elimination rounds.
Team USA plays Germany as their last game before the elimination rounds.

Assuming both Canada and the USA win those games, the team with the higher goal differential after those games gets to avoid facing team Sweden in the quarter finals. Could get ugly against France.

I'd say Canada has played the tougher opposition as well, so to have the better goal differential is impressive.

Wow Canada is having an abysmal Olympics. 0 goal medals, 18th in medal standings, with only 7 full days of Olympics left. New Zealand, Brazil, Kazakhstan are ahead of Canada.

The hockey medals are even more important now.

18th if you rank by golds, but 11th overall in medals. Some disappointing performances for sure but still some very good chances at medals to come.

And with one rink, the games aren’t played concurrently as is sometimes the case. With the Canada game finishing before the USA game starts, Canada has no choice but to maximize goal differential - no scoreboard watching-induced gas off the pedal to be had.

Also, good chance we see the USA pull their goalie quite early and despite holding a substantial lead in their game.

There are two rinks, but the simultaneous games are within the same pool. When Canada is playing France, Switzerland and Czechia will be playing in the other arena; and when the US is playing Germany, Latvia and Denmark will be playing in the other arena.

Chinook mall had a funny screen showing the medal count. It was stuck showing the golds only for some reason - a big fat zero locked.
