At first I thought this was a story of a hockey player once again being dumb. But if some dbag is taunting his mom in that way straight to his face, as an 18 year old it's hard to hold back. I don't disagree that he should've known better but it's right to your face and his mom is right there. I may have done the same, honestly. Anyway, I think this will all be settled with some community service when all is said and done.

This exact scenario happened to a buddy of mine where he stepped up to defend his wife from comments at a bar/restaurant and after throwing the first punch he was jumped from behind and stabbed multiple times.
Almost lost his ability to walk.
Just stupid all around.
So I’m firmly in the walk away category, though my inside voice definitely tells me FAFO to defend one’s loved ones.

Yeah..
People who try to instigate fights are typically low-vibing. Angry at life, envious of others, looking to drag someone down to their level and make them pay for biting. Sometimes it's just blind, misdirected anger. So it's important to recognize it for what it is and remain above it cognitively.
If you bite, they win. If you brush it off and completely reject whatever they're putting down, you win. You get to keep your peace, your life, your well-being, etc.
Let them stew in their negativity and don't let it infect you.
And yeah, if it comes to it, make sure they attack first so that anything that follows is seen as self-defense. And that's the time to be dangerous. But only then, IMO.
I've always found physical altercations easy to avoid, even with guys who are frothing at the mouth to get into it. You just never meet them where they're at (in anger). Pattern interrupt them with concern, confusion, or apathy. They're looking for a dance partner so it's usually as simple as not tangoing.
If you feel the need to answer every insult hurled your way (which means you give people power at any given moment), you'll make yourself vulnerable and unsafe to be around. Rearranging someone's face sounds satisfying, but we also live in the real world where nothing good comes out of it beyond the thrill. There's nothing that makes you feel stupider than paying months or years or some kind of irreparable damage for a momentary lapse in judgment.

Eminem said it best:
Quote:
But at least have the decency in you
To leave me alone, when you freaks see me out
In the streets when I'm eatin' or feedin' my daughter (in this case, mother)
Do not come and speak to me
I don't know you, and, no, I don't owe you a motherf*****' thing
I'm not Mr. *NSYNC, I'm not what your friends think
I'm not Mr. Friendly, I can be a *****
If you tempt me, my tank is on empty (on empty)
No patience is in me, and if you offend me
I'm liftin' you ten feet in the air
I don't care who was there and who saw me, just jaw you
Go call you a lawyer, file you a lawsuit
I'll smile in the courtroom, and buy you a wardrobe
I'm tired of all you
I don't mean to be mean
But that's all I can be, it's just me

I've been leaning toward Stenberg, but I'm a little less concerned about McKenna's perimeter play now.

Young and dumb. The guy chirping his mom probably deserved it but that doesn’t matter. At best Gavin will now have to reward the person for their actions with a payout and at worst a lengthy legal problem. I’m not sure how I would have handled that situation at his age but I probably wouldn't have broken the guys jaw with a bunch of witnesses around.

Now, is this because you would've just decided not to, or because you physically wouldn't have been able to?

Lol, at 17 I was in much better shape than I am now, so I might have been physically capable. That said, I don’t think I would have. I also wasn’t a hockey prospect or in an environment where physical aggression was modeled as acceptable behaviour as a child. Athletes often get put on pedestals, with adults encouraging that kind of aggression, but that wasn’t my experience, so even if I could have, I probably wouldn’t have. You can’t break someones jaw because your feelings got hurt, most people can’t afford to deal with those consequences.

There will be people coming at him his whole career. Hell, going the college route these guys put a target on their back, unfair as that may be.
Toughen up, get some thicker skin. This will be far from the last time he’ll be chirped in person or on social media.

Please get help.
In the NHL arena there is at least tacit agreement as to the rules of engagement…though as Bertuzzi learned, not everything goes.
In actual life of normal, healthy individuals out for an evening, there is tacit agreement that it does not make violence acceptable.
There likely was both video and at least one bouncer at the bar. There were choices.

It's weird seeing the post from page 2 with dozens of likes.
The guy could literally go to jail for his entire NHL career. Nm forfeiting millions of dollars, he may have forfeited his freedom. "no one talks #### about my mom" Bro I get it but this isn't landman.
