Doing that, he eliminated >50% of the "good" results for flames fans that still existed. So, the result is not good.

Also, there is absolutely 0, nothing at all, that lends any credence to the idea that this caps his tenure in Edmonton at today + 3 years. That's a ridiculous position. If anything, him signing again and building more of a life in Edmonton increases the future probability of re-signing again. Dino again the master of rejecting reality in favor of a distant dream.

I wonder how much furniture Katz is buying this week.
I mean signing a two year deal makes it far more likely he leaves then if he signed a 6 or 8 year deal...obviously. Like are you even serious? Look at the Oilers long term aging contracts. Seems like 3 more kicks at the can to most people. If he stays beyond that point they will be the Penguins anyway who cares.

McDavid now has 3 years to win a cup in Edmonton.
They have bad goaltending.
They are as soft as they've ever been and their forward depth is at its worst.
Hyman, Ekholm, Nugent, etc. are all getting older, slower and more injury prone.
They have no good prospects or draft picks.

Next year they will have about 23M in cap space to sign 2 F, 2 D and 2 G. About 3.81M on average which includes replacing their #1 goalie and #1 D. I don't think their depth problem will be solved in the next 3 seasons.

Oilers got worse this year while Vegas got quite a bit better.

I think Vegas has a good opportunity this year.

McDavid is the nicest guy in the world.. just took a big discount so Walman can get overpaid. That's a good teammate!

That would be a 21 man lineup, pretty tough to go with only one scratch all year.

This is a good post but they have more than that to sign for next season even...those are the mains but you still need filler

Now the Oilers will put Nurse on LTIR and replace him with 2 competent defensemen (or a D and a G). No need to bring him back for the playoffs under the new rules, whoever replaces him will be better than him anyway.

2 years was the smart move for him.

Genuinely surprised it was $12.5M, thought he'd get a little raise at least to the $14M Drai got even on a short term deal.

Think this is him saying "I'm doing everything I can to win in Edmonton, if we can't win with me taking a $6M discount then I can leave with no guilt"

Goes to show there is an interesting line between good guy and doormat, when dealing with the oilers.

Edmonton is like McDavid's Wormtongue and he's taking the bait when he never had to.

I'm sure he will not be happy with how they shell out that cap wiggle room he granted them to his mediocre teammates in the coming months (since I'm sure they'll burn through it quickly).

(Yes I know Vegas prices the Oilers worse because they get a lot of public $$)

Teams being +500 to win it all isn’t uncommon
I can assure you the Oilers wont have a 20% chance of winning the cup in each of the next 2 seasons

Exactly, this is how the entire hockey world is reading it...not a Flames homer take despite what Monahammer wants to call me out on

Obviously I prefered if he walked this summer and didn't have two more seasons but this is about best case scenario on term.

Yeah he must. I also suspect he's really feeling the pressure to bring a Cup back to stinktown, he knows he's in Gretzky's footsteps there. I suspect after a decade there, he wants out, so a short deal while leaving as much cap room as possible to help complete that goal as fast as possible, works for him.

Wants to hurry up and win one so he can get outta there a la LeBron as a Cav 2.0.

Ugh this is so annoying. The glazing of Mcdavid being the greatest most amazing teammate of all time is already beginning. Someone needs to do a Kawhi deep dive into Connor's LLC. Maybe check the financials on Mcwifey's cocktail lounge boutique atrocity.

In reality though. How great is this deal? It shows that Mcdavid will not retire an Oiler. If anything it only extends their window by 1 year as any franchise, even one as dumb as the Oilers, could flip a discounted Mcdavid to any team, for a haul that would make Eric Lindros blush. Assuming this contract is as bonus laden as it can be. After July 1st, 2027 the real dollars owed is going to be peanuts, and the cap hit palatable for any team to fit under the cap, and then figure out how to sign him for a max contract. Or work out a sign and trade with the Oilers. If anything Im starting to think Connor maximized on Oilers desperation for basically 23 million dollars(again assuming max bonus dollars) for one extra season and then get traded where he'd like afterwards with a shiny new deal.

Or maybe that's all a bunch of mental gymnastics. Regardless. Mcdavid eats crayons.

lol @ Rishaug "McDavid committed to winning"

For 2 years. 1 likely before he starts to look for a new home. They haven't fixed anything. They cant.

Definitely sends a message, but it's all a bit ceremonial. McDavid is the type of player that can simply demand a trade at any time. If the Oilers really bite it this year, I could see him demanding a trade before the new contract even kicks in.

That’s what living in Edmonton does to a person. Clouds their thinking, distorts reality, leads to a life filled with delusion.

McDavid obviously ignored the advice of his agent and other consultants.

The Cinderella story is over, those trips to the Finals were filled with luck and it will be all that much sweeter watching them sink with 97 at the helm.

Then you were not paying attention. I definitely posted about the possibility of a 2 year extension. I even told that to some posters who PMed me. I don't need to salvage anything, I report what I hear.

Prime McDavid at $12.5 million is hard to fathom really. They might now win anything over next three years but it certainly isn't because of him.

Gives the Oilers two years with McD unless they want to lose him to FA.

He'd better hope he doesn't get injured.

[QUOTE=Royle9;9525398]I'll be honest, if it is 2-3 year's the prognosis long term is probably not good but it gives EDM a small window KEEP E=NG
