Did a quick search to see who is actually playing.

Hart. Playing for Vegas in NHL
Dube. Doesn’t seem to be playing. Was in KHL last season.
McLeod. Playing in KHL for Omsk Avangard
Foote. Playing in AHL for Chicago Wolves.
Formenton. Playing in Swiss league for Ambri-Piotta

“The St. Louis Blues have signed Dillon Dube to a professional tryout with our AHL affiliate in following the process set forth by the National Hockey League and its Players’ Association upon his reinstatement,” the Blues said in a statement, per NHL.com. “This decision follows a comprehensive review of the details of his case and discussions at all levels of our organization. We are confident in the decision to offer the tryout and will provide the necessary support to ensure Dillon contributes positively both on the ice and in the community. We will always hold our players to the highest of standards, consistent with the core values of our organization, and that will be emphasized as we move forward.

The weird thing with these AHL signings is the level of these players. These guys are end of the roster players. Why take the heat for these kinds of players.

Seriously, the only reason to have any of these guys in your organization would be if they were truly a difference making player. None of them are, not even Hart. So...why? Let them drift into the abyss of former mid pro-athletes.

There was a time time that Dube looked like a decent middle 6 player. The last year he played though, he was horrid. I don't know if it was mental because of his legal situation, but I guess there is a chance that with that behind him, he can regain some form.

It probably doesn't make it worth it, but he was once a better than replacement level player.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. These guys are a dime a dozen, there are players like them on the Waiver Wire all the time with less baggage.

But hockey is weird, maybe they've got a friend or acquaintance on the team somewhere willing to do them a favour?

I agree - but he was 24/25 then so you could still squint and think he'll pick up a few points. He's 27 now - his last NHL season was brutal and he didn't produce in the KHL last year.

I imagine the pressure of the trial contributed to Dube's decline. However, I don't think all the pressure is off him now. It is going to continue to be brought up. The details are all out. It isn't going away.

Even a decent mid player isn't worth it. I mean if you ask me, no player is really. But particularly mid players. This is pro sports, and there is a high turnover. You'll get another player.

Yes I’d thought this might be the case with Looch in St. Louis (looks like he’s now poised to sign in the UK, btw).

I would agree, but the other side of the same coin is that these signings are low cost with some potential upside. AHL signings aren't exactly high risk at a hockey level.

If St. Louis fans raise a stink, I suspect they cut bait. If not, it is at least possible he makes the Blues and contributes on the bottom six.
