Whatever, he couldn't help growing up an oilers fan. A quick flash reaction is expected.

Whole lot easier to convert than an America. It's probably been digging at him forever that Calgary is the better city. He intuitively knows it.

You're so damn pedantic. I wish I could win the lottery and pay 90% of my winnings to make you stop posting here. It would be so beautiful and rewarding.

Over a quarter of the top 32 centres in the league are playing that position at a size where you say it virtually can't be done. That's not me being pedantic. That's you being wrong.

But hey, if you want to pay me to go away, make me an offer.

74 pts in his last 38 CHL games. Insane second half of season. If you are not a fan of this pick you are huffing glue

Which is incredible considering the way defense tightens up in the 2nd half and beyond.

To be fair, of the top-50 centers in scoring listed on the NHL website (and I recognize that not every player is a true C), only 9 of them are under six feet tall, and of those 9- only 4 are 5'10" or under.

Size will always be an asset in contact sports, whether people like it or not- and it's better to be strong down the middle in hockey.

So many insecure tiny peckers in here.

The kid is elated to be a part of the Calgary Flames.

Oh I'm actually excited about this pick. It's exactly the type of player we should be swinging for with the absence of top end draft position. Just thought it was funny using one of the best players to ever play the game as an example of how smaller players can make it as top line centers.

Great first round from the Flames.

I always thought center was the position where a differential of a few inches mattered the least. It's less board play relative to wingers and defensemen, which is really the hardest part of the game if you're smaller. You're typically not the first guy in the offensive zone on a dump in as a center either, which is also where size is a huge disadvantage.

It's more skating, more hockey IQ, more positioning, more two way hockey and more mental abilities than other positions. And he has those skills seemingly.

I think Reschny will be an excellent player. See him as more of a future 2C than a 1 but wouldn't be surprised if he ends up better than I think. Jarvis isn't a bad comp.

Reach is a big part of positioning though. Centers carry the puck, protect the puck and defend the center of the ice. It helps if they can take up space and not be moved off the puck.

Letssss gooooooo! Can I just say how happy I am that Conroy is picking players with high end talent, and not going off the board.

I was always so scared when Treliving would go up and you didn't know if he was going to try to be the smartest guy in the room. Thank you Conroy!

i dont think anyone will tell you that if all things are equal (skating, passing, shooting, compete, etc) you take the smaller one. if all things equal then yes size matters. I dont think anyone is telling you it doesnt.

all the posters here are saying is that they at least appreciate the pick and the attempt to go for the higher ceiling players

picking at 18, you act like they had the choice of anyone in the draft, do you really think they would have taken the same player at 7 or 8? or was it simply best on list that was not taken yet.

i dont think anyone is projecting him or expecting him to be a generational, franchise changing, first line C. (if he does [0.1% chance] that just a bonus) too many doomsayers about the draft choices. Cant just be happy for some new prospects to root for?

With our draft position in what is considered a fairly weak draft, expecting to come out of it with a number 1 centre isn't realistic. Getting a solid 2C would be a win.

I was the first who was taken aback with his reaction when the Flames picked him, but like another poster mentioned about being a little overwhelmed, I just watched the flames tv interview with him and absolutely pretty shocked.

By the end of that kid had a great smile and got much calmer.

I trust in Conroy with being able to recognize in character and I believe he values character as high as skill.

I remember the last Oiler fan prospect the Flames got, I think he turned out fairly well.
