Iginla barely made the team in '02. Basically had to be leading the league at the time.
No, by the time selection process happened he was a shoe-in. It was during the Team Canada training camp that fall where he didn't make the camp, then only filled in for an injured Simon Gagne. They named eight players in March of 2001, then filled in the remaining roster in December, Iginla was the first name mentioned when those names were announced. There's nothing to suggest at the time, nor now 20 years later that be barely made the team.
The last time the olympics were in Italy, Hockey Canada chose to take Kris Draper and Todd Bertuzzi over Sidney Crosby. Crosby scored 102 points that season.
So while it's duh obvious to take Celebrini we should at least be relieved that HC did not repeat that blunder.
Also having Robyn Regehr, Shane Doan, Bryan McCabe on that team.
How stupid. By that logic, Carter Verhaeghe should also be on Team Canada, and as much as I am a fan of his, there's no universe where that should or would happen.
It's very convenient that it's based on games played overall, and not point production per game...also only in the playoffs. Cool. cool cool cool.

Shocked Bennett didn’t make it.
Johnston, Scheifele and Bedard (hurt) all should be on as well.
He was clutch at 4 nations…
Mark Stone is incredibly slow and often injured now, I get his pedigree and what he’s done previously but I just dont see his upside over the 3 notable omissions above. Same goes for Wilson and Cirelli

I haven't really followed the roster discussion but why does Kadri get very little mention? I know there was chatter about Weegar wanting in etc... but crickets on Kadri?

Being an add-in at training camp is barely making the team IMO - we were all frosty about it at the time. By the time the selection rolled around, he was a shoe-in because he was absolutely lighting it up that year and they had to include him. Their original plans didn’t include him - that was plain.
