Wishful thinking from a Flames fan, but hopefully this is a trend.

And that's the argument: that, with his speed, he should be drawing a ton of penalties. And he does, but they didn't use penalties, they used penalties per 60, because it fits their narrative.

Two points regarding his rushes:

1) He isn't doing it as much this year - maybe he is saving himself for the playoffs, maybe he has been banged up, but he does fewer of those rushes this year than he has in the past.

2) As I said in my prior post, teams know that the way to beat the Oilers is to stay out of the box. Call me crazy, but I think if every team is trying to avoid taking penalties when they play the Oilers, that the number of penalties will probably go down.

I dont know about banged up, but his speed is pretty much the #1 tool in his box...the thing about that though is that in most sports, as playing time and age increases, pace is usually the first casualty.

I hope Connor takes these 3 games of sitting at home in Edmonton in mid-January to contemplate how much better life could be in Tampa Bay. Or Raleigh. Or Nashville. No one will care how awkward and void of personality you are there.

Be free.

Hopefully the public whining about the officiating and the league will enact the Wideman Effect upon the oilers.

Honestly? 3 games is essentially a week.

I'd be on a beach in Mexico.

They think they're already being Widemaned though lol.

I think the thing that pissed the NHL off most about Wideman is that he was vindicated somewhat because he won his appeal.

McDavid complaining about how inconsistent the calls are when comparing October and April is just another example of him wanting special treatment. That inconsistency has been around forever. Every star player that has lifted the cup has had to go through that same inconsistency where the whistles get put away the further you go in the playoffs. He thinks it should be different to make an easier path for him to get a cup. He wants 8 powerplays per game through the entire playoffs so he can powerplay his way to a cup.

If they did all of a sudden change the way calls are made in the playoffs, it would be a sign that the league is making the rules to fit the oilers more than any other team. This is a team that has been built to win through its powerplay more than virtually any other team in history. Making it so they call more penalties in the playoffs when the Oilers are in their window of contention would be very suspicious to me.

The funny thing is the PP is down like 8-10% this year.

Not the auto PP it was the last two.

Maybe he should learn how to succeed at even strength.

Seems a lot of his game is predicated on having open ice. In many ways mcdavid is an elite specialist more than an all around elite player.

But thats not fair of me. He is cultivating his skills in new areas though..

Being dirty and playing victim.

It would be sweet if as a result of “greater focus on McDiva”, more of his grabbing the opponent or opponents’ sticks and falling over was called.

Pretty sure he doesn’t mean that kind of focus!

Rather than called for embellishment I more so hope he's just ignored altogether.

I hope a number of officials decide they're not going to take his antics seriously and just let him flop around and sit on guys like he did and if there is retribution that comes his way, so be it.

Going from 0-100 and cross checking a guys face is entirely on him. It's not something he had to do, and feeling ignored by the refs when you were trying to sell a call doesn't justify the illegal action.

I wonder if there's a documentary crew following Connor around during his sabbatical.

It is so weird that they haven't had the same coverage around Myers getting suspended. Wonder what he thinks about his suspension...
