That's the book on Mantha though, he goes through lots of stretches where his compete level is equal to the square root of F all.

I have a feeling Huberdeau had a lot of influence in him getting signed. Hopefully he picks it up once the lights come one. I have a feeling he is on cruise control towards retirement.

I know it's team tank this season, but 2nd last preseason game and it's half AHL guys and none of the top players, cmon.
The Preds are preparing to compete and fine tuning their experienced guys. The Flames are looking at who to build with and having the potentials compete.

Huska dropped the ball here. That is not a lineup that should be playing in game 7 of the preseason and it hurt the guys who are on the cusp of making this team.

Brzustewicz is going to be a player. His vision, poise and playmaking are high end. The Rasmus comparisons are pretty spot on.

Coronato wasn't consistent enough in his efforts from game to game to have won a spot. It is possible that he was banged up against Vancouver, though.

Pelletier is too focused on the small details of the game and it's hurting his offensive output. That may be exactly what the coaching staff asked him to do, but he certainly needs to find some confidence in his puck skills at this level. Keep him around.

Clark Bishop, Justin Kirkland and Dryden Hunt look like more effective hockey players than Kevin Rooney to me, yet it would stun me if Huska didn't have Rooney on the roster.

Tyson Barrie didn't do enough to earn a contract. Sure he has poise with the puck, and can run a PP but his already poor defending has gotten worse. Again, I will be surprised if he's not signed though due to his history with the head coach.

Jared Tinordi stinks.

No star point producers though. Hopefully some of them develop into that. It’s the missing link in the organization.
I think we'd have more star players if coaches just got in their ears more.

Pretty good assessment. It's disappointing to see some prospects that should be taking the next step easily (Pelletier, Coronato) fail to do so again. I still like both players, but the reality is that if they can't make this weak Flames roster, they probably don't deserve to play in the NHL.

Tinordi is pretty awful. I'll be shocked if he plays a game for the parent club.

Barrie was pretty bad that game, but he's also carved out an NHL career taking offensive risks, so he's not likely to change now. Sign him or not, I don't care either way. This is a tank year, so I don't expect to be encouraged by nightly wins and losses. All I want to see is the kids start to take over the roster and make it their own. Hopefully that happens as the year goes on because I don't think the opening night roster will have a lot of those prospects on it.

I liked Pelletiers game. I think he may never be a big offensive producer, but his work ethic and positioning away from the puck has always stood out to me.

one player who I thought totally sucked was Mantha.

If the coaches were trying to send him a message it did not work, that guy mailed it in!

Overall, Wolf has looked good in preseason, but the Jets took advantage of him up top on three of their goals.

For sure and I stated as much by saying this season is tank mode. and Rightfully so. Just seems a bit strange it's the 2nd last preseason game and there's not one top 6 forward and not one top 4 D.

I mean whatever, this season is a write off but it just seems to be the Flame's mantra in seasons past to gear too much towards PTO's or guys you know are going down at the end of preseason.

Edit I guess there was Miromanov, Bahl and Zary.

I haven’t liked his game very much during preseason. We heard that they want Mantha to have a goal of 300 shots on net this year. I didn’t see anything to indicate he was trying to get open for more scoring opportunities or make an effort to shoot the puck more. For now, I’ll hope he is just waiting for the regular season to start before making that effort.

I do wonder why Coronato has not been tried on a line with someone like Huberdeau for very long. If they are looking for someone with a good shot who has a shoot first mentality… doesn’t Coronato fit that description more than anyone else? I would be more confident in Coronato getting to 300 shots on net in a full season with Huberdeau.

If he does start shooting and scoring then by all means put him in a position to pump his numbers up before the deadline, but if he starts flat and doesn't show anything in 10 games I hope the Flames cut the loss and waive him allowing Coronato or Honzek to play.

Agree on Tinordi. He is brutal. Felt sorry for Brzustewicz being paired with him.

In his defence he had zero defence last night.

We are trying to tank so Barrie is perfect. I would rather him get caved in and plump up his PP stats and trade him for a pick. The young guys can go down to the AHL get minutes and play on what looks to be a competitive team.

Think Brew could bring what they'd sign Barrie to bring to the team plus more defensive awareness

End of the day they'll pick the guy with the years of experience behind him though.
