yep, that would be like saying pick up every guy on waivers because you are "gaining players for nothing" The Flames could sign me for league min and gain a player for nothing.
quality over quantity...if someone isn't working out give someone else a chance. Teams seem desperate to keep their lineup together despite only a few teams actually being good.

I suppose you could have gotten a tweener for either player. Guys who would have no problem clearing waivers. That's about it.

Ack a 7/8 defenceman and a 13th forward? How will we ever replace their production? These are the kind of blows that can cripple a franchise.

Have to respect Conroy for deciding which players are not in his plans and letting them go instead of keeping them up on the big club in place of someone else who deserves to be there but happens to be waivers exempt.
Always sad to see players leave, but our skill pool didn't take a huge hit.

I wonder when the last time was that a team had 2 players claimed off of waivers on the same day, mid-season. It's got to be a rarity.
The Flames might not be a stacked team, but there is a lot of lower end depth. I wish we could have kept Ruzicka in the fold, but I don't care enough to be upset about it either. Someone else will get an opportunity now and I don't think we skip a beat because of it. And hopefully it works out for Ruzicka too.

I'm excited to see if either of them have any impact with their new clubs. I'm more excited for the ensuing threads about those impacts though.

Tweeners for cap space and roster flexibility. Nothing more. Need room for Kylington and Pelletier.

Neither player was going to move this team over the hump. Best of luck elsewhere.

I am honestly just glad I don't have to watch Ruzicka anymore. He looked so good for that 20 game stretch and then just didn't keep trying or something. Frustrating guy to watch. Hopefully waivers light a fire under his ass and he figures it out.

I still wouldn't have minded seeing Ruzicka in a more consistent top 6 role - he's produced when getting consistent minutes in that role.
I have no doubt that he will probably end up putting some points up for Arizona because that's what happens with the Flames lol.
Desimone is no huge loss, but I'd have rather waived Oesterle instead of him.

Yea this definitely isn’t a case of a player given away before seeing what he could do. If he puts it together for another team it’s most likely because being waived was a wakeup call and he started putting in the effort. Wasn’t gonna happen here.

DeSimone will be back on waivers once NJ starts getting healthier. He is plugging a hole while they manage all the injuries they are dealing with currently.
We may very well reclaim him later in the season.

you called him found "GOLD" he has one goal and has been a healthy scratch. You were obviously basing it on last season...move on. Like they probably won't even re sign him they love him so much but okay. GOLD
Switching to personal insults is often a sure sign you have lost the "debate" on the facts

"Gold" with quotations being the operative symbol to indicate that irony that Valimaki is not actually gold, but he is still a legitimate NHL defenseman/player that teams are always hoping their waiver picks turn into.
Now the Yotes are picking up another cast-off young Flames player (Ruzicka) in hopes that does the same thing for their team that Valimaki is doing.
Valimaki was obviously the Yotes #4 dman last season. He is obviously their #4/5 dman this season. You haven't refuted otherwise besides six games he was scratched after taking a vicious-looking hit to the head from Nick Cousins.
Hopefully Ruzicka sees this as a wake up call and thrives in Arizona so that more Flames fans can be butthurt about his success on another team.

Tobias Bjornfot eh.
Ruzicka is only 24, too bad he never took that next step in Calgary.

Kind of how like how when some players leave Calgary they are suddenly the most useless players in the world.
