I wont watch it this year because I am certain Hyman, Winesaitail, Skinner and Bouchard will be forced into the game thus year.

Do kids even enjoy the All Star game anymore? It used to have some prestige to it, but those days are long gone.

I see this as a reward to Lindholm for his play in 2021-22

Last year the highlights included Miami Vice throwbacks…… I’ve never understood the “it’s for the kids” talk. I don’t know who it’s supposed to be for, and I don’t think the league does either.

I'd like to say "I wont watch it this year" but that wouldnt be accurate.
Because I almost never watch it.

In a different universe, it would be Huberdeau as the easy, obvious choice.

It's for the NHL's corporate partners and sponsors.

I like Lindholm as the pick. The offense isn't here this year, but Lindholm is still a very good 2-way player.
It's not like any of the Flames are having career best years. And if the Flames are trying to trade Lindholm, there may be some unconscious bias benefit to having his name attached to the word all-star? There is some still some weight to name value + being able to showcase him playing with elite players.
I can make an argument that Lindholm is one of the best complimentary players in the league. If you put him with two above average players, you'll get an above average line. If you put him with two superstars, you'll get a superstar line.

It’s no longer about the fans at home. The All-Star game is a vehicle for schmoozing with corporate sponsors. That’s why the league fines players who don’t show up - not because it ruins the credibility of a pointless game. But because the corporate bigwigs who pay big money to attend all the festivities want face-time with the stars.

Its still not clear with this format, as to how these players get chosen "by the league".
I really think the teams have a big say in who is going, maybe giving the league a short list. Obviously if you're among the league leaders in stats, you're going...but for mid teams? Flames may have put UFA Hanifin, MVP Markstrom and UFA Lindholm on there, and the league figures they need a forward, not a goalie or defenseman from the Flames.
Lindholm will have a good all star game, playing with talent above his level, which he meshes well with.

There is no more skills comp with all the players
there will be a handful of players (Oilers and Leafs mostly) doing a competition of events created by McDavid
this is not a joke

Tkachuk didn’t get in. Funny. No Panarin either. One player from Winnipeg, New York. Georgiev is an all star? Okay…

Is anyone else surprised that McDavid has attended more all-star games than Crosby? I remember Sid 'getting injured' so he can skip the all-star game, but I thought he would have at least 5 more all-star appearances than McDavid, I guess Sid made up for it in Stanley Cup finals appearances instead.
