Feels like the Flames haven't had a player like Zary in a while. He can carry the puck into the zone and drive the net. He was hungry for loose pucks. Seemed like, unlike the other Flames players, he actually wanted to score goals. What a relief.

I think just further proves the fans have more than a good appetite for young players coming up and playing at least interesting hockey.
Instead we overpay for vets who could careless what the outcome is.

Huberdeau and Kadri may be in line to break 1 record this season....the NHL worst plus/minus is -82, and both are currently on pace to shatter that.
I only saw about 10 minutes of the game last night, but it did at least resemble a hockey game. Not sure where you go from here but I guess that is a blueprint for competency moving forward.

I'm not even mad. Close game, Zary shone, got the L - I'm fine with that. This franchise needs a rebuild and a high draft pick in the worst way, so let tank commander Huska do his line blender thing, stack losses and force the FOs hand when it comes to making decisions regarding our UFAs.

Trading Huby at 50% is preferable to buying him out...
Waiving him would be the first step to that outcome.

One day he may be waived for the purpose of buyout. Not anytime soon though.

I wonder if a team would even take him at $5.25M for the next seven years at this point given his play. That's still a big gamble for a cap strapped team and most of them fit that description.
Huberdeau is gonna need to figure this out as A Flame I think. There are no more excuses. Either he shows up or he continues to flounder.

No one could take him anyway, unless he waived his NMC.

1000% a team would. Put him on a better team and you have a shot at guy who can put up a PPG. 5.25 million is Coleman/Palat money these days.

Over the 6 game losing streak Huberdeau has no goals, 1 secondary assist, and is -11 (per Darren Haynes). That is hideous. He is a buyout candidate in a few seasons and honestly if we’re gonna run a younger team I would be fine if he sat in the press box.
|
They have both been disappointing to different degrees. I think it's unfair for people lump them together as if is the same degree though. Kadri seems to be turning the corner slowly.

There’s no way. Teams have and can find guys between league min and $2 mill that give more value than Huberdeau at half price now let alone at the end of this contract.

Let's not be ridiculous. Do you know what $5.25 gets you now a days? Teams will look at what he was in Florida and figure Calgary ruined him with our dysfunctional, crappy hockey team.
100% Huberdeau would be gone in a week with a few bidders if he went to market at 50% retained.

He doesn't have to do anything of the sort.
As long as he shows up when required, he's met his part of the contract. Actually doing something is a bonus for his team. He could be in the Press Box and still make $10.5 mil while meeting his contract requirements.

Oh for sure. I just think I’ve seen some flashes from Kadri that give me hope. I’ve seen diddly squat from Huberdeau.

Yeah Kadri has 3 points in his last two games and has looked to be playing hard since the Rangers game.
On the season as a whole who has been good enough???

For sure. Any rational hockey person would assume at that price point that Calgary’s horrific systems and misuse of the player was what led to his drop as opposed to him just sucking. No rational hockey person looks at him and assumes he went from averaging over 100 points per 82 games for 4 seasons to sucking and does not think this organizations ability was not a significant factor.
