So its not a done deal.

Cool.

Salim is simply the worst/least "in the know" guy covering the Flames.

Just a terrible sports reporter.

I expect nothing less from an apparent oiler fan covering our team. Dude needs to go.

Salim is a loser and should not be covering the team what a significant downgrade from Jermaine.

I don't think he has much respect of the other media in Calgary either. What a tool.

I've never been a big fan of Salim, his issues with Sutter seemed too personal. That said, everyone gets fed bad info from time to time. Not too upset with that

Also I wonder if Salim was just flagging Hanifin talking to the media based on all the news from Friedman over the weekend.

I didn't take from his tweets that it mean Hanifin was announcing he had re-signed.

Eyeball emojis, and a special tweet that Flames fans Noah Hanifin is speaking.

I think he knew what he was doing.

Guy is a troll.

This team is not doing a scorched earth rebuild, it's clear that is ownerships guidance, so we can't really evaluate every move with the mindset "they should just be re-building" because clearly that's not going to happen.

And with that knowledge then the team is better off trying to keep their good players and build around them as the cap increases. Hopefully hit on a few picks even if they aren't top 10 picks.

Is it the best way to build? Nope, but ownership isn't going scorched earth.

So with that mindset re-signing Hanifin is the right age to re-sign and it makes sense as long as it's less than $7M and ideally not a max term 8 year deal either.

To me I think there are some guys they are going to keep and build around (some of them becasue they likely can't move)

Forwards:

Keeping: Huberdeau , Kadri, Backlund, Mangiapane, Ruzicka, Coronato, Pelletier, Duehr, Zary, Honzek
Probably want to keep: Lindholm
Potential Trade Chips: Coleman, Dube, Sharangovich,

Defense;

Keeping: Weegar, Andersson, Poirier, Solovoyov
Probably want to keep: Hanifin, Zadorov, Kylington (?)
Potential Trade Chips: Tanev

Goalie:
Keeping: Markstrom, Wolf
Potential Trade Chips: Vladar

Really it's a bit of the Dallas Stars with Benn and Seguin plan.

Also, what player announced their own extension and their own media availability?

If it was a done deal and he thought it would be announced it wouldn't be "Hanifin is speaking to the media this afternoon". When has a player ever announced his own extension.

It was him fueling speculation about Hanifin and that the question about his contract would be asked based on the Friedman reports.

Not that the deal was done, people jumped to that conclusion on their own

the similarities to Jaybo are uncanny....Hanifin will be on team USA and a top pairing of a really good team within a short time of the Flames trading him for a late first lol

not good enough for the Flames though, we need so and so lighting up the AHL who can do the same thing cheaper

I hope attendance is bad all year (if the team doesn’t pull it together). I believe the Flames will do what they believe is the best business approach, and in time - a forced rebuild will be upon them. The time waste up front is what offends me (and why I cancelled season seats).

I think you’re right in that they believe they could be like Dallas. I just think that’s setting the bar too low, Dallas hasn’t won anything, and in my opinion they won’t win anything because they don’t have the players required.

From what I hear there is nothing to report on Hanifin. They have had dialogue but nothing is close.
