We like America better. Initially, in the NHL , I played in American teams. Calgary is still a provincial city. My wife and I are from Moscow, we were born in the metropolis, we love the metropolis. We spend the summer in Miami, this is the perfect place for us - we love the heat. We like everything about Calgary, it's a good city to live in, but the only thing is that it's very cold. In winter it can be -35, -40 degrees. I don't even want to leave the house. This has never happened in Moscow.

See, we need that CalgaryNext real estate plan after all. Z needs a fancy condo in a building attached to the event centre by a +15. He wouldn’t have to put on a jacket. Or a secret players only card lock tunnel that leads to right by the dressing room. That’s a sure fired way to get everyone to want to sign career contracts at reasonable prices.
…Tongue firmly in cheek…

Just comparing the climate data on Wikipedia, the winter months in Moscow have average lows about 3-4 degrees warmer than Calgary, and the extreme lows are again only a few degrees warmer than Calgary.
It's such a small difference that I doubt most people in would really notice that much. Maybe the last couple of winters in Calgary were just colder compared to the last few winters when he was in Moscow.

According to Wikipedia, Calgary has a Dwb climate and Moscow has a Dfb on the Köppen climate classification: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%B...classification
It looks like the only difference between them is Calgary has a dry winter and Moscow has no dry season. Calgary's temperature is slightly lower on average, but not significantly. Also, we get Chinooks and they don't, so our record highs during the winter are much higher than Moscow's.

For those who have not lived in Moscow (or Russia in general) there are a lot of Russians who hate the cold and are not accustomed to it. The issue is not climate but how the heat their homes/businesses, being an ex-communist nation they all have central heating which keeps the inside (anywhere you go) around the high 20’s not the 19-23 we do in Canada. This forced their bodies to not be adjusted to generating body heat by themselves and they hate the outside in the winter. I for example cant stand the winters in Moscow for the same this reason, I am way to hot inside and can’t take enough layers off to get comfortable (well socially acceptable anyway) and I have been here for 5 years.

It doesn't matter if it's actually colder or not, really. If the quote is true it's either the perception or the excuse he's given about the city.

Yeah, people are stuck on the Calgary to Moscow comparison that he mentioned, but ultimately that means nothing. What really matters is that he lives in Miami and loves it and hates the cold in the winter. He's gone.

I don't know. He already signed with the Flames as an unrestricted free agent after being traded to the team. He'll probably do what he thinks is best for his career and pocket book. Honestly, who doesn't prefer pleasant weather all year round? There are only so many places where you can make a living playing hockey there, and only so much cap space to go around.

Biggest difference is daytime highs/nighttime lows, due to altitude Calgary's average temp gets screwed when everyone is asleep.

I live in Calgary and I hate the cold. Being from a cold climate city doesn't mean that a person likes cold winters. I tolerate it because I don't have an alternative but it I did I would be gone.

Yeah, he said they’ve lived in Miami for 8 years. I’m not sure how after signing in Calgary despite loving Miami why he’s suddenly not signing in Calgary because he loves Miami.
I think he’ll sign wherever it makes sense to sign. If Calgary offers an extension I imagine he’ll extend.

That quote was translated IIRC, plus it just seemed stream of consciousness to me. He was just commenting on the weather (and also comparing Calgary to Moscow as a cosmopolitan city). Not his preferred playing destination.

Yeah, that's how I read it. I saw nothing there where he said, "I would prefer to play where it is warmer."

I wouldn't be so sure. Zadarov has found a solid role with the Flames and may not want to rock the boat. Prior to coming to the Flames his career was on the rocks. He as traded for a 3rd round pick, which is what you trade reclamation projects for. If the Flames offer him a 4 year contract for $4+ million, he might bite just for the security.
