No companies have hard quotas. Many have aspirational ones but those are just reflective of the population.

So, hiring the best candidate available?

Brad Pascall also worked for Hockey Canada for almost 20 years, including few years as vice president. Whether or not that is a good or bad thing considering the controversial things that happened during that period, I'll let others decide.

There is no "best candidate". That's just fiction. But the "pushing views" idiocy came from Bud Light and Pride Nights.

"Best person for the role" based on the status quo and traditional way we've done things, and our own biases to hire the person that reminds me of me, an old white guy.
Can't wait for our next old boys club GM that will continue to do things the way they've been done. Wouldn't want to rock the boat.

If what Steinberg said is correct (and I have no reason to believe otherwise), then the Flames have had between 25-40 candidates that they've considered.
No one on CP has a full list of names/genders/etc. for any of these people, so why even say this garbage.. as far as any of us know, it's an equal opportunity for anyone interested and qualified for the job. I hope they just hire the best candidate with the best vision for how to build the Flames into a contender.

Truth be told, I think it would be kinda neat to have the first female GM in the NHL and I would be excited for it.
I'm just not sure I'd pick a former hockey player to do it. Maybe someone with a bit more operations experience who would be wise enough to surround herself with good hockey people. Castonguay obviously has some experience. You couple her with guys like Conny and Snow and you might have a winning formula.

Not sure what "succent" means. I'll look it up.
You said "...best person for the job is often influenced by someone's internal bias (prefer someone young vs old or vice versa)". That sounds like a little lesson on being virtuous. Thanks for the example.
You decided to give us a sidebar on how bias works. No one on here needs to know how bias works. Like seriously...no one.
Bud light guy started this. What a lame thing to say. I want to go drink a bud light just because now. And as usual, you swung into your saddle on that high horse.

Bud Light didn't hire anyone for a job. They put a person's face on a limited edition can. And it was only a scandal because bigots made it so. It's no more controversial than similar promotions by pretty much every similar brewery.
Honestly, if people don't know the story, don't comment on the story.

BudLight sends a transwomen influencer beer cans with her face on it as a promo and people lose their minds. It's an asinine comparison to what we're talking about here.

What scandal? A bunch of sensitive thugs had their feelings hurt because they gave someone a special can and that person happened to be trans.
Idiots started dumping out already purchased beers like idiots.

sorry, that was clearly a typo. I meant succent.
you seem really upset that me sharing my opinion is 'swinging onto my high horse'. Not sure what I've done to get under your high skin. Have I been back on CP long enough that I have a rep of 'usually' doing things?

His reference was the vice president of marketing for Bud Light, Alissa Heinerscheid, who has put on leave, not the "Influencer". Although it was not articulated or well thought out, no need to dump on PuckSlap. Read the replies and ask who are the sensitive ones?
BTW, the term Influencer...who the hell are the idiots that are influenced by people on these platforms? I am pretty sure the term is what they called themselves. A more adequate term would be personality...

Alright...that is a solid response. I like that. Sorry if i came on strong, but i'm generally ticked at folks who take the bait, thus making me roll up the sleeves to derail a thread that was already getting derailed.
And succent...i'm going to use that in the future. Not sure where, but i'm using it.
Back on track. Hire the best person for the job...on merit. I don't think people would care at all who it is if the person ends up slaying it. But the chances of that person being a woman at this point in time based on merit is extremely low. But we are getting there. I think Jen Botterill could take an AGM role now and be a GM well within 5 years.
