Two men in scoring position with two outs and we leave Kirk on the bench in favour of Biggio. Terrible

Normally I’d defend the manager for leaving the lefty in against the right handed pitcher. But Biggio struggles mightily against pitchers with velo.

Either way, the pitching has been more than good enough today, but the defense hasn't really backed them up enough. I could argue that all 4 runs are unearned even though that last one counts as "earned".

And Kirk is possibly our best pure hitter. Awful decision making

4 unearned runs, all happening with 2 outs, or it's 1-0 Jays

if you're going to call that a hit, no wonder Arenato has 10 gold gloves
(kidding, he's earned them)

Vladdy took the Biggio approach instead of the Guerrero approach. Swing the god damn bat. Don’t run the count up.

Well that Chapman error loomed pretty damn large I would say. Uncharacteristic for him, he’s earned some mistakes. However, I have to say I cannot stand Biggio the baseball player, he truly does nothing well. Below average hitter, not much pop, big long swing, below average infield defense, not a ton of speed. He draws walks, which yes is a skill, but he’s my irrational goat for this season.

I like this team. I think they are a legitimate WS threat.

Guerrero and Springer are paid the big bucks to swing the bat not to take pitches…especially in the top of the 9th with runners on. I hope Schneider and Mattingly have a chat with them to challenge their approaches at the plate. Springer showing up the ump in the top of the 9th on a clear strike that he took was embarrassing.

This is the risk of a defensive first team. When you really need someone to cash in a run, if it’s a defensive player up to bat it’s a real crap shoot. The stars will have to align this year to go all the way. The left side of the infield has to be good defensively but OF? I’m very very unsure of the theoretical runs saved but great gloves. Definitely guys like Teoscar were terrible out there, but average defensive would suffice as long as you bring the bat. Just my philosophy.

It's not like Teoscar was hitting either, HUGE hole in the lineup. I'm watching him right now taking good pitches and swing a bad ones.

Teoscar was the personification of everything that wasn’t right with the team last year. Undisciplined at the plate, terrible defence, etc etc. They had to get rid of him. If anything he was becoming a nuisance. But he seemed subpar defensively. His saving grace his his big bay when it connects. Huge gamble with him. Glad he’s out. But I think they could’ve gone with average defence but higher on base percentage replacement. Who? No idea off the top. I will say my expectation for KK to fall on his face at the plate so far has been wrong. He’s looking good so far. But it’s a long season.
