And if Nick can replace what Looch does then it means they won't have to re-sign the big guy. No one will fight Looch anyways because they don't want to get beat up so hopefully he can retire and take a role with the team behind the scenes.

Matters a heck of a lot in a great draft class. Getting marginally better does a whole bunch of nothing for us at this point.

Remember when a bunch of people wanted the Flames to draft Ritchie if Reinhart, Bennett, and Ekblad were all taken before the the Flames pick in 2014?

Good times.

Always looking to save money, the Coyotes will make Brett wear Nick's old gear.

Maybe 4 weeks ago when it could have bared fruit this would have been somewhat digestible. Now it just seems completely misguided as none of the players coming in are even remotely good enough to move the needle in terms of what this team needs.

Why even bother adding elements like this now when you're effectively all but eliminated? A move just to say you made a move? Or is it just to take the heat off of the fact the front office isn't bold enough to sell someone?

Nick and Stetcher earn $4.65M this year, or about $1.2M the rest of the season

Brett and Mackey cost $1.5M this season, or about $400k the rest of the way

ARI saves close to $1M in actual cash.

Flames take advantage of that and improve

Many fans freak out

don't know if the cap would have allowed for it, but this would have been a good trade to have made 3 months ago; nothing wrong with the trade, but likely too late to have an impact

Don't hate Stecher on the Flames. Ritchie for Ritchie is odd.

the only way it impacts the draft in a meaningful way is if these guys make them quite a bit better. DO you think that will happen?

So, we basically just added cap for no real gain. Nice.

At that time, I’m sure the flames had their eyes on bigger fish, if the record was different.

The Flames really traded one brother for another brother…..that’s hilarious

From two spots out of a playoff to possibly one. That's how you win, here comes the champagne for that enviable "too good to draft good and too bad to succeed" glory.

I'll say this will stop the free fall and let them tread water for the rest of the year. Kinda sucks that Tree didn't take away Sutter 4th line toys. Thats all I got for negativity.

I think they could be responsible for a +3-ish point swing in the standings relative to the roster yesterday, given how many one goal games we play.

Which could well be the difference between 8-9thth place and 12-13th in the reverse standings given how tight they are.

And a team in the top ten has a shot at Bedard. A team outside of it does not.

We went from 5 nhl d-men to 6

And nick Ritchie could potentially score some goals for us

It's barely nudges the needle but gains could be had

I like this better than BT's usual fringe tinkering

I don't think it's a move worth freaking out over but it's more... just why?

I agree, the Flames legitimately improved after this trade.

But this is a lost season. I don't think any team sitting 5 points out at the TDL (and worse if you considers points %) has ever made the playoffs in that same year.

Just lose.
