Ullmark is world class, he's gonna win the Vezina, but no other team in the league that's scored 3 or more goals against him this year had to take 57 shots just to get 3 pucks past him. They lack a lot of things on top of finishing.

Starting with mental fortitude, skill, hockey IQ, leadership...I could go on and on.

I'm even starting to question if they lack fitness.

I mean...you can only completely collapse in the 3rd and lose in OT so many times on brainfarts or crappy goaltending before someone has to ask if you're so out of shape that maybe you're completely gassed by the end?

Its as good a theory as any.

Maybe thats why Sutter rolls the 4th line so much, because the top lines are out of gas?

I don’t even fault the personnel for the underachieving season. Good team with good effort just not getting the bounces. Don’t we lead the league in one goal losses?

Seriously, if the Flames are going to make a move, go get Korpisalo from Columbus. Shouldn't cost more than a 3rd and Vladar.

Easy decision. Gives Korpisalo an audition and frees up a spot for Wolf potentially.

Power play also a huge let down this year. One or more coaches should have been fired long ago.

This is the best game Markstrom played all year. If you're looking for greenshoots, that's it. And I think it's a big deal.

If he can play the rest of the reason like he did tonight, the flames have a chance.

Mangiapane needs to practice shooting on a wide empty net from 3’ away. See if he can hit it more times than not.

Not hard for the opposing goalie to make 50 saves when he can see them all.

At least Markstrom only let in 2 goals tonight!!

They aren't though. When you see declines in some categories of 2% or 4%, that has a much much bigger effect than people realize. All year long the team has suffered from inadequate goaltending and inability to score a clutch goal when they've really needed it. Leading the league in 1 goal losses is an indicator that your team either can't get that clutch save, can't score that clutch goal, or both.

Last year it was Seattle. Couldn't score or get a save to save their lives. But the underlying stats were great and they rebounded this year.

It was actually the Flames from 20-21 to 21-22. Didnt have skill, couldnt get a save in the 20-21 season - but the underlying stats were there. The next year rhe save and shooting percentage rebounded and they won the division.

They team lacks some finishing talent but if you dont think luck plays a role here too youd be wrong.

Happens every single season in the NHL.

You can’t be unlucky for 82 games

Maybe a playoff series


The team is what it is, most of the guys have been performing the same the last 3 yrs. Only exception was last year their top guys Johnny and Tkachuk carried them. This year, the top guys failed miserably.

Markstrom wasn’t really tested but he still super dialled in. Stopped everything he could have and at least a couple that he might not have. Nice to see from him.
