It’s not meant to be a future prediction or some comment on their entire time year. It’s a down year compared to last year, and the team is less exciting to watch. That’s not a critique on anyone in particular, it’s just the reality of removing two creative wingers.
They were fun players to watch, regardless of what anyone says, and watching them at the all star game is just a reminder of how fun it was.

I was only commenting on "results are worse". People seem to have selective memory. Most of the results were bad.
Running away with the division and then totally choking against the Oilers wasn't the greatest either TBH.

It is a funny how saying you miss watching a certain player needs to be met with a rebuttal.
I miss watching the two of them, maybe because while they were here, they were still relatively young and had the promise of potential. But I also didn’t really feel the team was built to be a winner either so there’s that.

I’ve never missed any player, really. Not even Iginla. Players move.
Also, the ASG is so artificial to me that it doesn’t bother me to see them score, because there’s always some players that light it up in this kind of thing. Hell, Huberdeau in this format would pile up points with his passing.

"Results are worse" certainly warranted debate...it's also a message board and a really boring game. People are gonna discuss opinions.

Home town guys usually do pretty well too...not that it's "rigged" but the players know what's up

That was in response to the other poster saying Gaudreau and Tkachuk missed winning, so saying their record with the Flames wasn’t much to miss probably applies to the idea that JG and MT “miss winning games” as well. Like sure it’s open for debate, and you’re not wrong, but your comment basically cancels out the need for the counter argument in the first place.
It’s cool if Gio doesn’t ever miss anyone and doesn’t enjoy the ASG or whatever, I like watching hockey because it’s fun to watch. Record aside, JG and MT are fun players to watch, when they were on the Flames I got to watch them a lot more. Pretty simple.
These games are further reason to move back to conference seeding though. East vs West, even if still 3v3, would be a lot more exciting. Can’t be great for the league having half the teams unrepresented and big draws like Ovi, Crosby, and McDavid not playing.

East/West is way better
But really who cares...any regular season game is a better watch
Hockey without intensity just doesn't translate

I used to love the ASG even though it was unrealistic. Then it got worse. The first 3 on 3s were cool, but now they’ve regressed. You are right about the marketing with half the league unrepresented by the end. They should also try to avoid overrepresentation of some teams even if it’s a snub to some deserving players.

The easy solution is still to have a real game, East vs West, winner gets home ice advantage in SCF.
That's about the only way to make the ASG credible.

I doubt anyone cares, but it is fun to watch some of the players do their thing.
It would be a bigger deal if they made the game count for home ice like just mentioned, but there are worse ways to spend an afternoon in February.

I’m not sure the home ice thing is a huge incentive, when the game’s a no hitter. Half of the players won’t even make the POs.

I thought the whole all-star weekend was fun. Svechnikov flying around the ice, Pettersson's shots, Kadri knocking off McDavid, Tkachuk and Crosby dropping into the dunk tank, Suzuki winning the golfing thing. Then seeing Crosby and Ovechkin playing together today was awesome. Even Horvat with Pettersson for the last time was kind of nice.
The reason the baseball all-star game is cool is because they can play real baseball without losing much intensity. In other sports it's more difficult because they actively avoid anything where an injury might occur.

Tor add to that I think it was just lead to a goofy dynamic. I feel like you'd have stars from the top 6 or so Stanley Cup contenders going balls out because home ice in the SCF would be so important.
Then you'd have the vast majority of players treating it like a regular all star game and just laughing as the contender players blew by them.

Would you say the same thing if Tkachuk was named MVP of the game wearing a Flaming C ?
Personally I'll never forgive Treliving giving Tkachuk a walk away contract.
Ottawa played hardball with Brady and has him thru his prime years.
