Coronato can sign with the Flames this year, and burn through his ELC before it would even begin, if he doesn't sign.
Not signing COSTS Coronato money. Signing MAKES Coronato money.

Coronato will sign when he’s finished his college season, burning a year off his ELC. There will be lots of room next year for kids with how tight against the salary cap we will be.

I agree Coronato will sign but it'd probably end up being cheaper for them to re-sign Lewis at 800k than have Coronato on the roster with his higher ELC base salary + bonuses.
I have my doubts that he makes the jump right away under Darryl.

Everyone is so Damn certain Sutter would never play kids from the farm but he did exactly that in 13-14 on the way to the cup. The prospects he started playing that season only got the chance later in the season as well when the team was having problems scoring. So the guy has a history of doing something but now he has changed and hates kids apparently.
Its fun to be mad now for some I guess, but the season is only half way done. At least wait until the end of it for the Sutter is a dinosaur chasing away all of our guaranteed all-star prospects takes.

Not quite — the Kings promoted Toffoli at the beginning of November 2013 and immediately gave him huge minutes right away, giving him a lot of reps to get acclimated within the system. I don't have the same confidence that Darryl would use Pelletier or Zary in a similar manner today, despite their pedigree and AHL production. If I end up being wrong about that, great ... but Darryl doesn't seem to be a big fan of young or small these days.

Except that playing some kids should have probably started like 20 games ago. We really don’t need another 20 games of borderline play to figure out what the team is now. We know what they are. This is a tap in decision so yeah it’s understandable why fans would question what the hold up is and the man himself is the one claiming stupid stuff in interviews. So, like this isn’t very hard to figure out.

Well we brought the point up in late October, early November and we were told just wait til January and those players would get a chance. Now January is here and the goalposts moved. Now we have to give a full season apparently.

This has been covered before. The players Sutter played from the farm were all big players, a couple of them huge. Toffoli was the smallest of the group.
Sutter is not going to inject a couple of kids under 6' 200 pounds into a lineup chasing a playoff spot. He won't play them now when the team has some runway, as you like to say. Sutter is not going to bring these kids up when the runway is the length of a carrier deck.

You speak like this is a fact. How could you possibly know? I'm stating that Sutter has brought up prospects in the past (an actual fact) and I won't be surprised if he does it again.

What would you do if you were in Coronoto's shoes? Would you sign a contract with a team that has not promoted a player since 2017? Would the coach's refusal to play players your size factor into your decisions? Would you leave an Ivy League education opportunity to earn AHL scratch, stay in school, or force a trade where you don't leave almost a million bucks on the table?
I'm not saying he won't sign. Read the post again. I said what I would do if I were in his shoes. Professional athletics is all about making as much as you can in as short a time as possible, because your career can be over very suddenly. Playing in the minors is the last thing you want to do, especially if you can work a deal out that eliminates that possibility. Any player that has control over his situation should be doing just that. This is no different than my position on Phillips. He's unlikely to get a one-way contract from an NHL team, so he should be doing everything he can to maximize his earnings. Leverage Europe and he could set himself up for life. Stay in the AHL and he's looking for a job as soon as his playing days are over. The player needs to do what is best for the player. The team doesn't matter.

But you have to admit with the current group of prospects that actually are starting in the AHL that he likely won’t right? What do you think the odds are that they promote a forward into the top nine this year? Or that they would promote Wolfe? Sutter clearly wants to keep playing Markstrom and we have proof this year both preseason and regular season that he doesn’t want to promote small players.

Because he's got history and likes a certain type of player. He hasn't brought up a small player late in the season that I can think of. Can you point out a small player that he brought up with any of his teams, especially since the turn of the century?

And I'm stating that any player he brings up will be a certain size or larger. He's not going to bring up a small player like is being suggested.

Darryl doesn't bring up prospects. Treliving does. And he has. But Darryl has barely played or hasn't played at all, the small guys and has thrown the bigger guy in.
Draw your own conclusions I guess, but even Friedman has noticed and written about this.

Sutter wasn't the GM. Dean Lombardi was. Sutter didn't seem to have the influence on player moves in San Jose and LA with Lombardi like he does in Calgary with these owners and Treliving.

well this doesn't mean anything...its a hot button topic and he gets paid for eyeballs
every team in the league is mostly big guys, you have to be substantially better to play if you are Phillips size. A big player that was PPG in the AHL wouldn't have cleared waivers.
Pelltier is a different story, he will probably play soon IMO.
