3rd period
9:15 Dallas Shot on goal by Jani Hakanpaa saved by Jacob Markstrom.
And that was the last shot on goal for Dallas.

Rick Bowness’ nervous laughter after every question does not mesh with his “matching them hit-for-hit” line.
I thought the boys really set a great tone for the series. Scoring slumps don’t matter as much when you can completely flummox the other team on D. Beat the wheels off them in the corners all game and grind out a win. That’s playoff hockey.

Yeah, that was something.
Bowness clearly doesn’t understand the opposition. Not good for them.

The James Neal signing is definitely a close second.

Anyone else notice Gaudreau out there on the penalty kill? I had to look up the the score and confirm that Calgary was still short handed.

Nice to win game 1.
Now I bet one of these teams isn't going to score more than one goal next game. And that team's storyline will be that their scoring has entirely disappeared. The playoffs put a microscope on everything.

What a great game. Obviously only problem is that Markstrom didn’t get the memo that the goalie should be trying to do stretch passes up the middle in the third period in a tight playoff game. For that matter, why wasn’t Gaudreau at center ice with the beaver tap calling for the pass from his goalie?! Instead, he’s playing responsible defence in his own zone!! These guys, I tell you.

Worth every penny. Who cares about the years at the end?

15 more wins like that and it'd be the literal lowest possible score to a Stanley cup. And en entire shrine separated from everything else in the HHOF carved out of gold for Jacob Markstrom. For ya know, all the things he didn't let happen.

Just a 1-0 win, but I'd say the whole team was quietly excellent tonight

HNIC panel right back to the “Flames are a low scoring team” narrative with the “Darryl Sutter system” that “doesn’t leave a lot of room for error by Markstrom.” Wtf Hrudey, did you forget all the games you called?
Darryl doesn’t miss a beat though. Challenges the second and third line to be better. Reminds Tkachuck it’s just one game and he needs to do it again, calls out the refs for the lack of instigator penalty. What a gem.

I would just like to say…I was at the game, and there was a lot of resistance to the wave, which is prolly why it fizzled out so quickly. A lot of people yelling “bad timing”, “no! Sit down!”, etc.

Klingberg is just upset he got lit up on a couple hits and then went after a guy he thought he could win against in a fight and then got embarrassed. Pure ego talking.

Hrudey is a completely different person when he's on the panel. He completely falls in line with whatever narrative they're running with, even if it goes directly against what he's seen/called.

Great atmosphere.
Lewis and Lucic and Ritichie had awesome games ,surprised to see how little ice time they had.
Very effective when they were on.
Kylington clearly not the workhorse Sutter will rely on.
Top.line as usual, did something every shift. The hustle and determination to keep the puck in the Dallas zone for last 30 seconds was fantastic.
That said, the Andersson penalty definitely threw off the Flames balance at the back. 2nd pp was poor after that point and team overall disjointed.
Some chinsey calls in period 1 and 2
Flames looked in control but a bad or lucky bounce either way seemed inevitable...previous years one goes in off a skate and then in OT someone stumbles and it's a 2 on 1 and a loss. So glad to get this one done and a win.
