Just spent a bit of time poking around team stats. The Flames as of last night have 4 players on 20 plus goals. No one else, not Tampa, TO, Washington or Carolina have more 1-2. Colorodo has 3.

broke the first rule
|
"We need some saves"
Markstrom: Oh, I'm good at that.
"We need someone to beat someone up"
Lucic: Oh, I'm good at that
"We need someone to score a goal they pass to themselves soft the boards"
Lindholm: Oh, I'm good at that.
"We need someone to score a goal in one leg"
Toffoli: Oh, I'm good at that

Agreed - I remember being surprised the 17 times they lost that year!
Pretty sure Flames were #1 GF and #2 GA; and Montréal was #2 GF and #1 GA. That final was a matchup between the two undeniably best teams that year. It was epic.

Duck Domination! Eight Straight Wins Feels Great!
Couldn’t stay awake for period 3 out here in the eastern time zone, but did Mangiapane end up on the Monahan line in the third? Just wondering if Sutter is trying a few different combos to find the fit for Toffoli, and to get Monahan going (which seems to be working).

Sutter said after the game he switched up the lines to equalize ice time because of all the minutes that went to special teams.

Flames have moved into a tie for 6th in goals scored per game and have also moved into a tie for 1st in goals against.
Darryl Sutter is a better coach than I even thought but this is giving some vindication that the 18/19 team wasn’t a fluke and this is a good team with some great players.

Sportsnet: McDavid and the oilers enjoy well earned rest after California sweep; no western conference games of importance.
Staples: Nhl screws the oilers; Sportsnet reports California sweep but Oilers only receive 4 points.

The Flames in back to back games this season:
1st game: 7-2-0
2nd game: 6-2-1
Overall: 13-4-1
Already 3 B2Bs in the 1st 16 days of February, and they are 6-0-0

So Toffoli lands after playing 4 games in 6 nights in Montreal and steps into epic back to back wins and plays well. So, the guy has now played 6 games in 8 days. Phew.
A couple down days and some practice time and he should be a wrecking ball on Saturday night.

Seemed to help stabilize the game for the Flames. Good coaching move.

Sutter has a lot of strengths, but managing the bench seems to always have been his bread and butter.

Last year, we all wanted to shoot the team to the sun. When Darryl came, I remember saying before we trade or dispose of anyone, I wanted to see what Darryl could do with them. If he couldn't straighten them out, no one could.
I had no idea he would do this. Masterful coaching with a team that was desperate for real guidance. So happy for everyone. Go Flames!!

Man the Flames are given so many breaks by the officials. If McDavid did what Ruzicka did the announcement after video review would've been:
"After video review, a match penalty has been assessed and McDavid's actions have been referred to the Alberta Crown Prosecutor for Assault. 3rd round pick to Calgary"
|
This is so awesome. The Lucic-Neal trade still lives rent free in their heads.

Those lines really got blendered in the 3rd period. Don't think lines will be the same on saturday!

I thought the Ducks played a strong game and Markstrom had a few ten-bell saves to hold the lead, otherwise it could have been even closer.
The Ducks d-men did a good job pinching which caused quite a few uncharacteristic turnovers on the Flames breakouts but at the end of the day, the Flames prevailed. I love the killer instinct this team has this year. Scoring goals in bunches is fun.
