This is building on a post I made in another thread regarding the Flames being contenders. I just took a look at how they have fared against the top competition so far.
Update with Vegas and Washington added:
Here are the Flames numbers against the top 12 opponents in the NHL by Pts% (Flames are now 10th):
Team / H2H Record / GF-GA
Colorado (0-0-0) 0-0
Carolina (0-1-1) 4-8
Florida (1-1-0) 7-7
Toronto (1-0-1) 6-4
Tampa (0-1-0) 1-4
Minnesota (0-0-0) 0-0
NY Rangers (2-0-0) 11-1
Pittsburgh (2-0-0) 6-1
Nashville (0-0-0) 0-0
St. Louis (1-1-0) 8-6
Vegas (1-1-0) 8-3
Washington (1-0-0) 4-3
Overall Record: 9-5-2
Points% .625
7 Home games 9 Road Games
GF 55 - GA 37
Goal differential: +18
Essentially, if the Flames played only against the top 1/3rd of the NHL, they would still be on pace for 102.5 points.

Keefe in his post game presser went on about how that type of hit is violent, the league is trying to protect its players and we are trying to get it out of the game.
If that doesnt scream "we are a staypuft team so give us bs calls ref" i dunno what does.
My god.

Another reason to love Darryl, he doesn't whine when his players get hit unlike the Keefes and Paul Maurices of the world.
Here's Keefe's comments:
Quote:
"It is a violent hit. The puck is gone. Any time you see a guy get hit in the head with the helmet flying and all of that kind of stuff, my opinion is that it should be automatic. It is a violent hit. We are trying to get those hits out of the game that injure players like that.
Those things happen in the game, unfortunately. I thought there should’ve been a call. The ref saw it differently. I thought the guy kept his hands down and all of that kind of stuff. But it is a violent hit. If you are trying to protect players, that is the kind of one you are looking for a call on. But you move on."
I was interested to find out a bit more about Keefe's time as a player; according to Wikipedia:
Quote:
Keefe and the Colts drew national attention for their on- and off-ice behaviour which called into question the character of the players. Upon winning the OHL championship, Keefe, as captain of the Colts, infamously refused to shake the hand of league commissioner David Branch, telling him, "this must burn your ass." At the Memorial Cup, the team walked out on a customary banquet, threatened members of the opposing Rimouski Oceanic, and refused to shake hands with Branch, also serving as Canadian Hockey League president, during pregame ceremonies. Their season ended with a 6–2 loss to the Oceanic in the Memorial Cup final.
Keefe made his NHL debut on October 18, 2000, in his first professional season in 2000–01. He was shortly demoted to their American Hockey League team but was suspended without pay for failing to show up. In the summer of 2004, Keefe was acquired by the Phoenix Coyotes. He did not play a game for the Coyotes, but in the 2004–05 season Keefe played 4 games for the Utah Grizzlies (1995-2005). In September 2005, Keefe was re-signed as a restricted free agent by the Phoenix Coyotes and reassigned to San Antonio (AHL).
After just five professional seasons, Keefe opted to end his professional career and continue his career in hockey with coaching.
Sounds like a great fit for Toronto. It makes me happy to know two other former Barrie Colts burned his Leafs (Andersson and Mangiapane).

High danger chances were 7-8 Leafs...its hilarious, the Flames dominate so much that we act like we stole the game like this.
Flames had better goal tending and finish for sure but many of the Leaf shots were never going in. Few ten bellers for Markstrom but the vast majority of shot were routine.

That's 100% what it is. The Flames just dominate so consistently that games like these where they're outplayed by just a bit (43.61% xGF%) is just a complete shock and feels like domination the other way around (at least to me).
But context is also important, as it was the second half of a back to back against two NHL powerhouses.
I wonder whats its like to be so delusional that you can sit here making stuff up in your head as to why a team who is literally better than us in every facet of the game is winning more games than us.
Its nice to see at least one person up in Deadmonton has started drinking bottled spring water instead of tap water.
