Until a celebrity who got their first major acting gig in a baseball-centric role, who hosted a cult reality TV competition show that was revived for new episodes in 2018, and ultimately ended up getting their self-titled SiriusXM radio talk show, went on to spew vaccination misinformation to the masses. Giving legitimacy to debunked doctors who peddled pseudoscience bull#### and tricked a bunch of impressionable idiots into believing that non-sense.
But fortunately we learned from McCarthy and that never happened again.

I'm sorry, what? How is saying that it didn't take place in africa remotely excuse the original comment? He's such a moron. Nobody thought it was racist because he got the setting of Planet of the Apes wrong. It just goes to show how insanely ignorant he is. And to hear him incredulously describe how he was black people on twitter called him out is the cherry on top.

Seems a lot worse than a comedian saying something for shock value and suggests actual racism.

Yeah, he's a giant dummy. I haven't seen any proof that races have different brains, other than The Bell Curve which is absolutely racist and wrong.

This Joe Rogan issue further shows us that people on the left and right are total idiots. Nutbars who read the headline and take it as is, or people who think everything is about our "freedoms". Nuts. Thinking critically and having opposing views is super important - not falling into the trap of left and right wing debates.
Joe has made mistakes here, and there should be consequences for those mistakes. I don't think those consequences should be to be cancelled but there should be something. His shtick was always to have a healthy debate but at some point he started taking a fairly healthy move to the right, and it showed in his guests brought on, and his opinion being shared on everything, rather than being a good listener and bringing opposing views to whomever he was interviewing. Can't say whether that's the money changing him, or his ties to RW Dana White, or society as a whole, but he was a the middle of the road guy at one point and now it's silly. I don't mind at all the vaccine debates as some of them were well explained from his standpoint where we don't know what effect it'll have for people long term, but when he started getting into drug companies making money (and that being sort of conspiratorial), he lost me.

I don't listen to his podcast. However I'm pretty sure he's a Tesla driving, weed smoking Los Angeles living Democrat kind of guy. The anti vax stuff of his comes more from the hippie side of thinking.
Edit- googled it and says he claims he's independent. But he's endorsed Bernie Sanders. I don't think his political standing is right wing than.

And the lack of a state tax sure helped when he was signing that fat contract.
I don't know if he drives a Tesla but he's more known for driving muscle cars and modded Porsches.

Literally the only podcast of his I've ever listened too was his with Neil Degrass Tyson who was what I was listening for. They mentioned they both drive Teslas so that was where I got that part from.

I wouldn't rule out CTE. He's like a walking billboard for the current beliefs and (lack of) knowledge on CTE. Leaving a contact sport as a result of headaches incurred by multiple head traumas. Anxiety and depression to go along with anger issues earlier in his life. Memory loss (that he blames on weed and also credits weed with helping) and even sleep apnea now being associated with CTE or TBI. He's at the age that CTE patients are expected to start experiencing cognitive impairment, personality changes, lack of judgement, poor reasoning skills and early onset dementia which can manifest itself with symptoms that include paranoia.
Could even explain some of the videos here of him recognizing what he is saying is wrong but saying it anyways as impulsive control issues that CTE patients experience symptoms of.
I know he's often diagnosed others with CTE and does discuss brain trauma issues often, but has he ever acknowledged that he's also a prime candidate to experience CTE?

Less CTE more whatever he injects into his system on a monthly/daily/weekly basis. He's put every needle into his body except an mRNA vaccine.

Joe Rogan has a genuine talent in that he is great at getting others talking. It's similar to Howard Stern, where he gets people riled up but also sits back and plays the dummy a bit, and his guests often really expose themselves.
That being said, I 100% agree, his latest content has become more right wing click bait focused. I've basically stopped listening to him over the course of the last 1-2 years, as many of his guests were conspiracy theorists or fringe health nuts.

Where is the CTE stuff coming from? Joe Rogan was never a pro fighter - he had 3 amateur kickboxing fights so I doubt that caused massive head trauma (having had some fights myself at that level). I favour the explanation that he is just a bit of a dummy that partly reads/hears concepts that he is interested in but fails to develop a real understanding of them. He then regurgitates half baked ideas as if they are facts - or at least valid ideas worth considering - and gets himself into trouble. I don’t think CTE has much to do with it.

Had an idea!

He's literally a comedian that now does long-form discussions.
To think that people are outraged over what he says is laughable.
To think that he should be canceled, removed or have his contract terminated is pathetic.
I can understand that if he is airing controversial medical discussions, Spotify should label them as cautionary, but since when did people start agreeing with silencing people for supposed misinformation, and who is going to be the 'fact checker' that decides what is misinformation.
Of course, if the shoe were on the other foot, the outrage in reverse would be hilarious.
As for misinformation being peddled around that everyone is still outraged about, amirite?

This may help you out

What drew the most heat was Rogan comparing a black neighborhood in Philadelphia to Planet of the Apes, and clumsily apologizing for it this past weekend by saying he had simply meant to compare the neighborhood to Africa. While in his non-apology he gestures at how long ago he did this (not that long ago), and the fact that there was context (there is always context), these things don’t matter: He was a grown man comparing black people to monkeys for laughs.
To the extent that context does matter, part of the context is that Rogan has not stopped saying racist things on his podcast. On a recent episode with Jordan Peterson, he said the term black is “weird” unless you’re talking about “someone who is like, 100 percent African, from the darkest place where they’re not wearing any clothes all day.” He also said that he was not white, he’s Italian. This conversation was on a podcast released on January 25 of this year, and is still on Spotify.
|
Quote:
I don’t want to mince words: Every defense of Joe Rogan in the context brought up by India Arie is a defense of white people saying the n-word, whether they mention it or not. The speech that got Rogan into trouble was racist speech, specifically racist speech that included him saying the n-word, over and over and over and over and over again. Rising to his defense in this context isn’t a defense of free speech, or open discourse, or his right to have a $100 million contract, or his personal kindness, or of his audience: It’s saying that one of the most powerful and influential entertainers in America, who over the past few years has had an increasing sway as in essence a political journalist, saying overtly racist things either doesn’t bother you, or is something you actively think is good.
