The Flames are guaranteed to be leading the conference at US Thanksgiving.

Has a team ever been leading the conference at that point, and not made the playoffs? I seriously doubt it.

I agree. And even more importantly for me, the thing for me is not the idea of the correlation

They are playing the right way. Sutter has said they don’t want to be a defending team, they are a checking team

The reason they have their record is how they are playing

Results and statistics are passive observations of how things are being done

Teams that have fallen off have, being the improbable exceptions, likely been the beneficiary of unsustainable things.

First in goal differential
First in 1st period goal differential
First in scoring first
First in time leading
First in goals against
First in 5 on 5 goals against

Every one of these stats are considered good indicators of team strength. And each one bodes well for the playoffs.

At US Thanksgiving in 2001, the Flames and Oilers were tied for second overall with 32 points (Detroit had 39). Both of them missed the playoffs.

The Flames had 13 wins after 21 games. They won only 19 more over the final 61 games.

Fortunately, the Flames did much better in those other seasons, especially the bottom one.

Is this a dive?

Looks like his ducking and putting himself at risk. Should be penalised to protect himself

LOL

Ducking from what? Is there a sniper in the upper deck?

The Dallas player isn't even looking at McDavid, he is trying to watch the play. McDavid grabs the stick, throws his arm up in the air to get attention, rolls himself over, then dives to the ice, then looks at the ref.

Yeah, he's trying to protect himself.

(or maybe I mis-read your post)

Worst of all, he's pulling garbage like that with 20 seconds left in a 4-1 game just to draw a penalty so he can get his chance to keep his point streak alive.

Good game from the Flames. Even though the Hawks tied it up and were putting the pressure on, the Flames didn't break.

Great to see the 3rd and 4th line contributing. Hopefully they rest up and keep it going after the 3-day break.

Oh yeah, E=NG.

We need to start tracking the oiler posters in the ATL so we can vote for the saltiest of them all for each season.

Random aside, but Biznasty said he asked Lucic what's going right with the team this year and Lucic responded:

"Big D hockey, baby. Everybody's loving it."

Darryl Sutter is elite.

That seems like a huge statement from a good coach and why the team seems to have all bought in

It seems In my opinion at some point since this year and last year when he took over he noticed the selfish plays and gave the players an ultimatium.

" we play as a team and win or you play for your self and you can get lost"

My opinion but that what I see as believable and what I see on the ice. When you go guys like JG throwing big hits in back to back games, money hands turning into a grinder and distribution guy, etc etc

I see a team buying in that they all win or they all fail. I think Sutter is a teir above Hartly but at the core they are the same old school ilk. This core was good then and now seems to be. It was a nice experiment ( sarcasm) with the nice coaches but nice dosent win with out top elite talent on every line. You can't Cooper it without going extremely over Cap in talent.

Trelieving Imo failed letting Hartly go to soon because he wasn't "his" guy. It's all come full circle again IMO with a "dinosaur" coach but the results are there.

Defensman sure let him get the puck first .

Lucic sure gets the puck in alot by chipping it in then pressuring the dman. By my count only 5 dmen this year went to retrieve the puck instead of just letting lucic In first then just stick checking him . All 5 Dman that allowed lucic to hit them instead of backing odd all ended up hobbling off.

It's gotta be 100% easier for him just to go out and be a big man after the traded from Edmonton. There he had 1 great year with Mvdives and put up incredible numbers ue to the latter. Then he suffered as that what was always expected to coming to Calgary , even management (eventually, remeber they tried him on the first) but fans knew he was to shine on the 3rd ot fourth line best.

That pressure off seems to be working in spades. I think fans just expecting him to be an elite grinder, check when available and fight when needed has totally reinvigorated his game.

I'll give I another 20 games but that "4th" line is getting close to out maching the islanders 4th line as best In the game . I would say very edi g the best 9nly because clutterbuck and Martin are a smidgen faster lucic and Richardson. Lewis can keep up to czkias ,clutterbuck and Martin.
