At this point they will have to overpay to get him. First, pay a lot to get him then pay more to keep him away from a rival. This team needs a guy like him moving forward.

At this point? It was always going to be an overpay, but the Sabres have not been offered what they wanted, so they are clearly trying to hang on as long as possible to get the Flames and VGK to bump up their bids and get back as much as they can, even if it’s not what they asked for.

If the Flames are for real this season, it'll be good for the club to see Vegas lose a handful of assets and get back a player who probably won't play this year (maybe playoffs).
Another thought I had regarding the Sabres trade leverage, their stance is basically if Eichel gets the surgery he wants, he'll no longer be an effective player. But Eichel won't join any team that won't let him get said surgery. That tells me that whatever trade it is will have a lot of conditionals.

Really hoping it's the Knights that get him. I would rather the Flames go ahead with the prospects in their system and keep their 1st round picks.
