Just started watching.
I see that they are halfway to my preferred pairings :
Hanafin - Tanev
Giordano - (Kylington) currently Nestorov
Valimaki - Anderson

Here is a NHL rule that bugs me: when the Flames come back to start the third period on the powerplay they will take the faceoff at centre ice, and whether they win or lose it will kill about 30 seconds of powerplay time. When a team starts the period on the powerplay the puck should be dropped in the offensive zone.

I honestly don't get why people despise it so much. If the team plays it fast and well, it works.

Watching TSN feed. Interview with Johnny on tonights play and the lack of scoring. Don't see much of Johnny interviewed on SN.

I think all teams do it when there's no entry. We do it even when Moses parts the ocean for a clear path into the zone.

That he was “robbed of the chance to watch McDavid tonight (but he gets to watch Sid)”. On a Flames/Sens broadcast.
Granted, it was a promo for the game tonight but FFS, just talk about Sid then.

Sergei Makarov used to get mad at players that would dump and chase. I think that it was Roberts telling the story. Sergei could not understand, if you had the puck, why give it away to the opposition? It's telling them that you are not a good enough player to keep it.

They do it on the regular, because it is a good way to wear down the opposition. You have to commit to it.

It’s all about making good decisions at the opposition blue line.
It was a huge problem pre- Sutter, resulting in counter odd man rushes against.
Some of the Flames are over cautious in the correction.
It will get better.
One thing I can guarantee. They are NOT being told to dump it in, they are absolutely expected to make correct and good puck decisions in NZ.

Yeah a big if.
Like the original poster, you're giving up possession. When I was coaching minor hockey or playing, I always believed in making the other team take it away from you then giving it up. Dump and chase you are essentially giving it up and trying to retrieve it. That's not an efficient way of playing or using your energy IMO.

Well, Makarov was wrong. It's not "telling them that you are not a good enough player to keep it," it's a different game than that. It is rather telling them that you are so damn good that you can beat them without the puck.
