If by “selling high” people are meaning selling at the very peak of a players performance, no, it hasn’t happened. And probably hasn’t for most teams. I suppose Ferland and Hamilton come closest. If by selling high we mean selling before a big decline, the Flames have managed it a few times.

Spencer Knight starts off his NHL career 4-0.
He just turned 20 a few weeks ago. Knight is the youngest goalie ever to start off 4-0.

I wonder when Wolf gets a chance.

I woke up this morning feeling a little down about the Flames current situation, thought I’d check in on how some of our former favourite Flames are doing. Turns out, none are lighting the league on fire this year.

Here’s how the top 5 former Flames compare to the Flames current top 5 scorers.

Glass half full: our current lineup is holding its own. The Flames have effectively replaced the production of Toffoli, Gaudreau, and Tkachuk with our current crop of veterans. Looks like Sharangovich was a savvy pick-up by Conroy.

Glass half empty: the absence of Huberdeau on this list is glaring. He is supposed to be the difference-maker who tilts the list to the Flames advantage, but he’s not even close. Also stings to know we gave up a first round pick to get rid of Monahan, who is out-performing many of our core players (Backlund, Mangiapaine…).

Tkachuk and Gaudreau are having a real bad year. Replaced/compared players that suck with our own really doesn’t mean anything

Fox is putting up point per game. He is not having a bad year, just injured

Fox ain't a former Flame. To me a player has to at least have had a contract and maybe even played in the organization. I don't consider Jarrett Stoll a former Flame either.

Gaudreau has 14 points (14 games) in December; 10 in his last 8 games.
I haven't watched their games but he has improved statistically after a terrible start.
