Definitely feel better coming into this season versus last season. If we don't see a hockey trade we just have to hope Johnny and Monahan get it together and that guys like Mangiapane and Dube push up the lineup.

Plus the Flames can still make some tweaks, or key additions. Solidifying the net really puts us in a much better place! Replacing Jankowski may also factor in a good way!

Agreed. Jankowski walking really is an example of addition by subtraction. People said he was a PK specialist but I didn't see it that way. He seemed to lose interest in the PK even this year.

I was really hoping we trade Monahan.

For whatever reason he wanted to sign a one year deal so it made zero sense for the Flames
People freak because Gaudreau could walk in two years...Hall will likely walk in one

I think the draft was fantastic, but I think free agency was a disaster.
Keeping Ward was a decision I didn't like.
The biggest problems in the playoffs weren't addressed. 17 million in cap space is gone, with only a 15 point defenseman to show for it in terms of scoring (and about 100 points worth in scoring walked away as free agents).
Both major signings on players on the wrong side of 30. One of which has already regressed in 3 consecutive years.
Tod Button (drafting) and Ron Sutter/Ray Edwards (development) are basically keeping the team afloat at this point.
I thought Treliving should have been fired once Dallas beat the Flames.
None of the recent actions have changed my mind in the slightest.

Yep, mutual deal that helps both parties. Hall saw $7-$8.5AAV offers and believes COVID has played a part, still thinks he can be a $9.5-$11 AAV with a good season.
Go to Buffalo, get really good minutes and play for stats, get a much bigger deal next off season. Buffalo, meanwhile will trade him at the deadline to a contender and get some nice assets back for nothing.
People saying this makes no sense, it makes all kinds to me. Mind you, he's hedging on a great season. Not saying the logic is solid just that I understand why both parties did this.

Honestly I don't think there is much you would like
Top 5 goalie is pretty substantial...goalie did cost game six (as did not having their top forward the entire series) Plus there are 3 months at least until the season starts

That may be the idea but its not very smart IMO
9.5-11! Hall would have to have an MVP caliber season, not get injured, and the league would have to be back to "Normal" after a shortened season with little or no gate revenue
Good luck with that
IF Hall had 7+M long term on the table and didn't take that is a MASSIVE mistake (maybe he didn't)
I would bet on things being worse next summer

Oh wow, just saw this. That sucks on Buffalo's end, takes away all their ability to auction him off to the contenders.

This is the weirdest amount of vitriol I’ve ever seen for a player who we shouldn’t care about. He isn’t a former flame, he didn’t sign with a rival, he accepted a decent contract, he reunites with a coach he likes and gets to be a star on a young team.
What gives? Fire his agent? Sellout and doesn’t care about winning? Get a grip.
Good for Buffalo and good for hall. What’s the problem again?

Depends what you want.
Toffoli is a halfway decent all-around player who can score some goals.
Hoffman is a pure sniper who doesn't do a whole lot else on the ice.
I'm okay with the pure sniper, BTW.

Either on a 2 year term sure but any longer and it probably ends badly (cap wise).

I just drool at the thought of Hoffman and Monahan on a PP with Gaudreau feeding whichever one is open. We've needed another pure shooter for a while (all due respect to Tkachuck and Lindholm), and I just don't see anyone besides Monahan who is an elite shooter. It makes it easy to defend when they know Gaudreau is always going to try to get the puck to Monahan.

This could be great for the Flames. Could get him a lot cheaper at the deadline if he does in fact want to come to Calgary.

I agree, a sniper would be a welcomed addition but I'm weary at the ask, especially term, for either Hoffman or Toffoli.

Adding a goalie was great.
But this team struggled to generate offense in games against quality opponents with playoff level intensity and checking. That hasn’t been addressed.
