I don’t think it was just Kylington for Edler. It was at last year’s trade deadline - and apparently the deal didn’t happen because Edler didn’t want to sign an extension here (this was all mentioned in passing by Vancouver’s TSN guy I believe). I don’t even remember hearing that Kylington was involved - just that Calgary tried to acquire Edler.

It was Jason Botchford - who actually died last spring. Odd thing to find when looking up an old hockey rumour.

Vancouver’s Second-best Defenceman isn’t exactly a glowing entry on someone’s hockey resume.

Any GM that gives Erik Gustafsson the Tyler Myers contract should be fired.

Re Andersson, he’s currently my favourite flame. Mostly because he seems like such a beauty off the ice but obviously also his on ice talent.

Re game. Birthday today indicates Jets 3 Flames 4. Andersson with the GWG.

I am looking for two things tonight from the team as a whole, one results-based and one process-based.

The results-based bit is eliminating the Jets and moving onto the next round in any matter possible. Obviously this is vastly more important in the short-term than the process-based piece. The Flames winning is all that matters tonight. "They don't count how, they count how many"

The process-based aspect is looking for the Flames to build off their performance in Game 3 and completely outclass a significantly depleted Jets team that was already one of the worst teams in the league, aside from goaltending, prior to their infirmary getting crowded. Going into the series, I expected the Flames would control 55-61% of the 5v5 expected goals (score adjusted, of course) - anything less would be a disappointment while anything more would be significant reason for optimism. Now, factor in the Jets are missing their best player and number one centre, and a second line winger, and the Flames as a team with Cup aspirations should be exceeding that 60% mark as an expectation. Strength of opposition matters when evaluating the Team bigger picture - achieving 52% against a depleted Jets team is not the same as 52% against the Bruins for example. In jiu-jitsu we have a common saying "not all black belts are created equal" and this is similar to what I'm getting at.

There is a caveat, being sample size. Every team will have performances that far outperform or underperform their expectation throughout the season. No different in the playoffs. When preparing my NHL bets, my model starts with a sample size of 18 games and all other adjustments are implemented from that base...so in saying I am looking for a one-game performance like the above is a bit contradictory I acknowledge. Even as a series, 4 games is obviously no where near the minimum of 18 I would ever use normally. But these are unprecedented times and we can only work with what we have given the break out of everyone's control.

The Flames upped their work ethic in Game 3 and the resulting puck support was a big difference maker. Continue that tonight and the Flames will cruise to the next round.

Flames in 4!

So, are there any returning players for the Jets on the ice? I assume warm-up has started, no?

I have a good feeling for this game that the Flames are going to close it out. I'm not sure if I'm just being suckered back in by hope and fandom, or if last game was really a promise if better things to come.

But, agreed - Forbort has been a nice add for the PK.
My guess is Kyllington is not long for this club once the season is over...the trade deadline showed us that he simply is not trusted by management.

Mackey has never spent a minute in the NHL...so he is not to be countec on as anything but an AHL guy next season. Lerby is not an option yet ....period.

Forbort is as good a candidate as anyone to be in Calgary next year. He does things other cannot.
