Don't forget that Calgary gets the backup, and other teams don't really try as much as when facing the talent of McDrai.

So I’ve said split up the top line for the last six months or so.

It’s happening. It’s working. Thank you Ward.

Sure looks to me like Ward is going with the Vegas playbook. Rather than have a distinct first line, second line etc., you construct 4 lines that can all contribute on offence and still play sound defense. The line that is feeling it that night gets the additional ice time.

Thought both PP units looked really dangerous tonight which is a huge bonus.

Now I'm just remembering when the Flames drafted Janko and Pierre McGuire started listing all of his relatives.

Their self awareness is really mia when they make all these insinuations, pretty incredible.

You were gifted the best talent of the decade. You pissed away two of three other number ones that were also dropped on your lap. You annually get to face among the most tired opponents. 2nd easiest schedule this season.

Some greater force has it out for you my rear. The powers that be are dragging out the booster seat to get connor to the playoffs to be showcased. Your team is just inept and terrible.

Or as some say... no good.

Looked like a totally different team than the playoffs. Jumping all over the Avs defence and forcing turnovers and turning those into chances. Instead of sitting back and letting them come at you at full speed.

So what's the ideal forward lineup in a couple of weeks when Bennett and Czarnik are healthy? Dube has really established himself and Rieder has played excellent hockey over the last little while.

Something like this?

Tkachuk - Lindholm - Mangiapane
Lucic - Ryan - Gaudreau
Dube - Monahan - Backlund
Rieder - Bennett - Czarnik
Extras: Frolik, Jankowski
AHL: Rinaldo

That's a pretty expensive press box, but I think all 14 of those NHL guys have upside and are valuable players to have around. It's certainly a deep lineup... heck, Frolik can easily tread water with Tkachuk and Backlund if need be, and he's currently pencilled in as the 13th forward. And Jankowski is slowly improving.

Rinaldo has acquitted himself as well as he could have in his brief stint, despite his poor metrics. I have to imagine he's among the first in line for another callup, should the opportunity arise. Good to see plenty of forward depth on the farm, with Quine, Phillips, Gawdin, Robinson, Philp, Lomberg, Kirkland, Froese and Tuulola all producing nicely.

I wonder if they genuinely don't know which goalies are starters. I mean they get the backup in probably half their games.

Edit: I mean the no goods to be clear

Hook actually probably helped him score. It slowed Mono down a touch and also forced him to straighten up a bit to be able to get that puck up and not blow by the net.

Good for Dube too. Hope that toe drag doesn’t go to his head like the one Bennett did 3 years back and now he tries it twice a game.

And Gio, rock solid back there on that play in OT. Kelly was torn because he kept pumping MacKinnon’s tires (how many times did he say he enjoyed watching him, “along with McDavid”)all night. Replaced the Makar talk I guess.

And Reider with great hands and feet to corral that puck at full speed to get over to Frolik.

Favourite part of the game for me? Rasmus giving no respect to Landeskog and just slashing and cross checking him down and off the puck.

Worst part of the game? Hamonic with a lazy stick check on Mackinnion and having him spin off and score.

Rasmus is becoming the meanest Flames defenseman and that reflects very badly on Hamonic.

When you play against great players, you can’t give them any respect. You have to whack them and slash them and call them names and treat them like trash and make them uncomfortable. It has to be constant, just look at what the opposition does to Johnny.

I mean you have Lucic on the team now, you don’t need to be scared of anyone out there. Be an ass! Channel your inner Tkachuk.

Whhhhhaattt????!!! Yeah, they were starting to play okay, but to deny something crazy has happened with this team with the departure of Peters, complete with Monahan literally referencing the change? That's insane not to acknowledge.

Of everyone I thought might save the Flames season, Akim Aliu was not high on the list.

Akim Aliu is now a part of Flame’s lore. Seated at the right hand of our Scorch.
