While true, at least in the NHL level most captains are pretty bulletproof currently. They're among the biggest stars on the team with multi-year guaranteed contracts and the fan base largely behind them. Even in a worst case scenario they'd still have a career somewhere else.
I mean, if there had been a word against word situation between Peters and Gio, it's obvious Peters would have lost.

You can’t know this.
If they have some issue handled internally, out of the public eye, who is to say Tre doesn’t back his guy like Ken Holland?

Whatever you think is obvious is not. Sorry.
and until now, you could probably bet any GM would back the coach over the players. can't let the inmates run the asylum.
I don't think what holland did was out of the ordinary for the times.

Generally true, but there've been exceptions, especially with franchise players, like Crosby.
to put up with something or take responsibility for it; to deal with something, such as pain or misfortune, without complaining.
Ya, its an outdated expression.
Better off just saying what you intend it to mean: take some accountability for your actions.
You definitely dont need to be "a man" in order to do that, and in my experience, I actually think women tend to do a better job with that.
Its probably more accurate to tell someone "to be a woman" about it. I obviously don't plan on using neither expression, but illustrating perhaps why the expression makes no sense.

Or, you know, just “take responsibility for your actions”.
Looks like the NHL is looking to develop better whistle blowing policies, a comprehensive discrimination and harassment policy, more focus on incorporating diversity and inclusion for the sport and for fans, and breaking the culture of silence around the game.

Many in the older generation you talk about were victims of messed up parents coming back from WWII. You young people have not idea what it takes to have to obey orders from your superior or risk getting shot.
I dread the day when the young people of today have to fight another war.
I can't wait for the day when toxic behavior no longer exists, so that wars are no longer necessary.

I find “coward” to be the best replacement for the feminine-based insults. Stuff like “grow a pair” or “sack up” or “don’t be a p****” or “be a man” can all be easily and IMO more impact fully replaced with “don’t be a coward”.
If people call me a p**** I couldn’t care less. Someone call me a coward. You better bet I ain’t no coward!
Holland added that he has not spoken to Franzen but did talk to former Red Wings defenceman Chris Chelios, who alleged on a Spittin' Chiclets podcast this week that he witnessed Babcock "verbally assault" Franzen to the point where the player had a "nervous breakdown" on the bench and in one of the rooms following the game.
"I spoke to Cheli," Holland continued. "I hold Cheli in the highest regard...I just said to Cheli that the timeline he laid out – the perception was there was a situation between Babcock and Franzen on the bench and the next day I came down and said something to the team – both are true, but they're about five to six years apart. When I did address the team one point in time – I think Cheli retired in '09 – Cheli said he was sitting in the locker room, so it's gotta be '06, '07 - and the Franzen-Babcock was the Nashville series in 2012.
