Burke’s take was this was a desperation move by the coach.

Its pretty simple actually. Speed kills.
Last year when they were drawing so many stick infraction minors, it was because they were playing faster than their opponents. Thats when you see hooking/tripping/slashing stuff called...because the other team is behind their checks.
Now? Team simply doesn't play as fast as they did for the first 3/4 of last year. It all changed after the AS break last year for some really inexplicable reason.
Its why they are penalized so much this year...now they are the team chasing more often than not.
Intensity just isn't there. Unless the players decide they want to play the way that will allow them to be successful, nothing much else matters.

You mean how they generally got outplayed, and combined for precisely zero (0) goals in their new configuration?
Yeah, I guess you are right
(I actually don’t mind trying new lines if they are going to be given time to work, but my comment specifically had to do with when to apply external motivation and when there may already be some)

Odd game though.
The Jets obviously had that everything to the net out door game mentality. Scoring chances finished 9-8 Calgary despite not having the edge in powerplays.

The players give a sh*t meter is not there. Until that changes they are not going to have much success this season. Also if they have tuned out the coaching staff then start gutting the team and stock up on picks.

Definitely. But then I believe when most people talk about officiating bias they do not acknowledge this. It is a fan site but I would argue for the most part, people want to engage in honest discussion about the team and not just display their unabashed fandom.

Thanks for mentioning it. It's the only thing I want for dinner tonight but have no way of getting it. Bastard.

The Jets have 23 minor penalties this season, The Flames have 56.
Is the discipline level really that stark? Bennett was penalized for something he didn't even do last night.

There’s a fast food Chinese food chain down here, Panda Express that sells Beijing Beef which is pretty much a ginger beef knockoff. I don’t like the place but my daughter does, so we go there occasionally.

So the reason is an anti Flame bias on the part of the league? Are we back to the Wideman effect again?

Yeah, we're starting to get enough of a sample size now that the noise should cancel itself out. Either the Flames are really undisciplined, or there is an issue.
Bias does not need to be conscious, or pre-meditated.

1qqaaz: according to nhl.com, WPG has by far the largest positive discrepancy between PPs and PKs, so I am curious why that isn't showing up here.

How did I not notice that? Now that you said it though, I actually remember that chart. And what made it even crazier was that the Flames were at the other end of the spectrum, prior to the Wideman event.

They were all in scramble mode after Frolik made a huge mistake. Hamonic blocks that and its a great play.
You really have it in for Hamonic.

Yeah, yeah. I am doing this wrong.
Frolik, Brodie, Jankowski suck. Bennett has peaked.
There you go.
Blocking a high point shot is not a great play. Letting your goalie see the shot is a great play.
Tell me who Hamonic was covering. That was a bad play by him.
Commentators noted it. Go take it up with them

They noted Rittich was screened by Hamonic. They didn’t say that was a bad play - just that it happened. You are acting as if there was no one near the net and Hamonic just decided to stand and screen him.
Frolik lost the puck. Hamonic went to the net to cover players who were going there, like he always does. In doing so, he screened Rittich.
And blocking shots is coached as preferable to letting it through, creating rebounds, etc.
ETA: There were at least two Jets in front of the net, one causing as much of a screen as Hamonic, moving across Rittich’s vision.
