These job pay better because they need to attract a certain level of employee.

You mean they'd have to hire people with actual work ethic and a desire to put effort into their shifts?
You're selling the end of tipping culture quite well.

I don't really see this as a bad thing... the places with the best service are generally not hiring based on looks.

I hate tipping culture, and fully admit I'm pretty much shamed by our society here into giving in and doing it as well. Doesn't mean I have to tip anything over 15%. Still trying to stick to that, as I feel like the more we normalize the 20%, the more it's going to creep up to 30 or 40%.

Im with ya, let's get rid of big corporate bonuses too. He's your wage, expect x, nothing more. But, in all seriousness, I don't know if people would work a service industry without tips unless wages were quite a bit higher, like $25-30/hr. Then we would pay an additional, and mandatory 15-20% more on the menu. So.....
Having lived in Europe for a couple of years, I really appreciate tip/hustle culture. Rather than having to track down a server to order food, or go to the bar to order your next item.

I always wonder about tipping in a food app before you pick up the food. If you don't tip are you getting some added saliva?

I've heard that providers make it optional but I have been told by more than a few places that there's no way to remove the tip screen by the providers' support staff.

I don't have anything to add to the debate, but seeing this thread bumped reminded me that Scottie Pippen is known as "No Tippin Pippen" cause hes a cheapskate and I just think thats one of the best slander names ever.

When I was working in restaurants serving (or bartending) was the best job. The cooks also worked shift work, and typically later as they cleaned up after everyone had left. They weren't making hundreds of dollars in tips during a 4 hour shift either.
I get the appeal of having an attractive young woman serving food, but wouldn't you rather just have someone competent who can take and deliver your order properly? In Canada anyways, a lot of the "good looking" servers also have a really entitled attitude. Is the few sentence fake flirt really worth putting up with someone with a bad attitude that can't actually do their job?
I find my experience in restaurants in the USA always so much better than locally. The servers understand they have to earn a tip via good service. They are genuinely friendly. No not as good looking, typically, as the servers here though.

In a strange way, tipping culture actually helps me spend less. When I factor in tipping to the cost of something, I usually don't bother with the purchase. Or I will go somewhere else.
The one thing I do tip on pretty generously and don't mind are haircuts. It just seems like the kind of service that deserves it more and I don't think they make a tonne of money. I don't go anywhere fancy, so a juicy tip on a cheap haircut is still cheaper than what a lot of places charge without tip and the worker is always very appreciative. Like giving a $10 tip on a $25 haircut blows their mind, yet the place in the mall charges $40 for the exact same service not including tip.

AS much as I love rich bonus people paying more they are unfortunately smarter than the rest of us.
