Flames have acquired D Oscar Fantenberg from the Kings for a conditional 2020 4th
He’s a better replacement for Prout as his transition game is noted to be a strong part of his game. Defensive depth will be needed at some point, this low risk move ensures the Flames have that added bit of depth
Oscar Fantenberg played 35 games for the Kings this season. Top 6 in terms of games played, he also becomes 6th on the Flames D too, in terms of games played.
Fantenberg played 25 minutes a night for the Kings last playoffs as per Treliving. Yes, they had injuries and a suspension and they got swept but its still a good thing that the coaches there gave him the ice time he received in the playoffs. I think it's a good add as it sounds like he's reliable at the very least.
I don't like the price considering what Kiselevich and Beaulieu went for (or Brassard even) and I don't like how, ideally, he never should play a game, but BT can be trusted.

He will probably play about half of the remaining Flames games. I will prepare myself for the upcoming whining when Kylington is a healthy scratch.

They'll need to get a few looks at Fantenberg in the lineup, with this team's players to assess how he fits in case they need to call on him. Can't just throw him into the lineup due to injury without having played him in a number of games and situations.
Fantenberg will definitely have a period of adjustment due to acclimating to the systems, if for no other reason than the active puckhandling of the goslues.

Just chatted with #Flames addition Oscar Fantenberg. Has already received welcome texts from Giordano and all four Swedes on Calgary's roster.

#Flames newbie Oscar Fantenberg on Monday's news: “They have something good going on and it’s always nice to go to a top team in the league, so I got pretty excited pretty quick when I heard.”

Also, Kulak would have spent the season in AHL or popcorn duty, if he had stayed in Calgary. He'd maybe have Prouts 13 games.
If you want a depth guy beyond your top 6, who has spent the season playing in the NHL, you basically have to get one at trade deadline. Which is why teams are always looking for them at trade deadline (and why they're always kind of expensive for what they are).
A depth guy that hasn't been playing just in the NHL recently just isn't as valuable, even if they're otherwise pretty much the same.
I would say he would have played more than 13 games but those would probably have been games after Valimaki went down with injury and then we might not been able to see the emergence of Kylington as early in the season
Fantenberg is actually our 5th most experienced d-man in terms of playoff appearances. There is a clear concern Tre has about his young D-men in what we hope to be a deep run. I think this move makes perfect sense.
I remember when Caps traded for Kempny last season. Their fans were skeptical and made sarcastic remarks as "plan the parade" etc. They were right in the end, and Kempny has played a key role in their run.

Agree but at the same time Kempny had a longer track record and his underlying metrics were insane
