Do you really need more viewing time to see if he's better than the Lazar/Peluso/Hathaway's playing with the main group? I'd argue he'd be best on that 3rd line RW with Bennett and Jankowski leaving Hathaway to play a 3b/4th line role which is what he should be.
Competition or not you can clearly see the kid is oozing confidence (which is key) and the hockey sense is lights out the best of our local squad thus far in camp. Either way I think he's going to be a solid every day NHL'r but I dont agree with this whole "prove it next week" mentality.
Last years rookie camp and pre-season he was our best forward
This years rookie camp and pre-season he's been our best forward
He wasn't selected to go to China so you cant hold that over his head, he was asked to stay behind and make the most of it and he's done just that. He's doing what he's been asked and yet people keep saying he's not yet proven himself. He doesn't get to choose who the other team dresses, he just has to worry about showing what he's got.
At some point you have to let these kids swim, you can just keep asking for them to prove their worth. When will it end?
Either way he's going to be around until the end of camp lets get that straight, I'm pulling for him to be on the opening day roster because I think he's shown he deserves to be there over a few of our slotted "NHL" guys once again.
|
Agreed. You can’t ask someone to stay behind and do their best Brock Boeser imitation and then not give him a spot. What happens if VANCOUVER sent Boeser to the AHL maybe he not as confident as he is now. This has to be up there with Johnny and Tkachuk’s rookie and training camp performances. I believe he has been the first star in his last 3 games that is pretty exceptional.

I think no matter what, he gets his 9 games.
Or does that even apply in his case?

Pretty sure that only applies to players who can be returned to a CHL team.

In this case, since Dube will be 20 years old this upcoming season, whether he plays in the AHL or NHL, a year will be burnt on his contract, so the 9 game tryout doesn't really apply.

Here's my pick for when not if he makes the team

Yeah, Daymond Langkow's first three seasons weren't the greatest though...

Looks pretty similar to someone else who currently plays for the Flames doesn't it?

The thread title is: "Does Dube make the team?"
And the answer, (IMO, and as Bingo stated), is that making the team is a few steps away. He has taken the first step by dominating against his peers. The next step is against stiffer compensation. Then full rosters. If he keeps impressing at those levels then he definitely makes the team. Even if it doesn't happen for a few games.
But it has to play out one step at a time.

NHL competition in regular season games... Gaudreau was sat and had he played another 6 games like his first 6 he would have had some AHL time.
Really big test getting to play against NHL competition when the games mean something.
Monahan, Gaudreau, Bennett and Tkachuk got their chance as the Flames did not have many better options at forward.
add in Neal, Lindholm, Ryan and Czarnik and the Flames do not have a spot to put Dube and see if it turns out well.... which is what they did with the last 4 top prospects.

Obviously it’s just 1 game. But still nice to see the league’s 29th ranked farm system (the athletic) beat the #2 farm system handily.
|
Handily indeed. The Canucks #2-in-the-world prospects might impress some—on paper. But they played really poorly on wednesday. Horribly, in fact. Not to take anything away from Dube. He was excellent.
Ha Ha Stupid Canucks.

I'd say the flames are closer to middle of the league for prospects, realistically. The forward group, namely Dube, Phillips, Mangiapane, Foo, Gawdin are all underrated, especially looking at where they are ranked on a lot of lists (some not even on them) and guys like Zavgorodniy have upper echelon skill. Seems like most coming in saw the system as having a few defense pieces, a couple goalie projects and that's it. But as we can see there's quite a bit more in the pipeline. Props to the management and scouts for continuing the trend of strong drafting after the first round since 2011.

I really like Dube & I am pretty sure he's going to be a really good player for you folks. He's also got a great personality and is a very likable kid. This is my opinion as a 'Nucks fan.

I don’t think the Flames have much in the junior cupboards but we still have a very strong pro system imo. Dube looks like he is going to play in the league sooner than later and hopefully has top 6 potential down the road. I also think that Mangiapane will break through and play at least a couple years in the NHL. I also like the potential Foo brings.
On the back end we still have 3 solid young pros that hopefully will be pushing for spots in a couple years.
Hathaway, Lazar, and Kulak should be feeling worried about their spots.
