It's all been said.
The Calgary Flame, the ultimate Calgary Flame.
In my mind as a Flame he was simply the greatest, oh Captain my Captain.
Iginla was the primary reason we decided watching games on the TV and attending the odd game wasn't enough and invested in ST in 2002.
He was truly a special player, we have several pieces of signed Iggy memorabilia pucks, photos, hat, flag, jerseys but my favorite is a team photo of the 2002 Salt Lake team Canada because it was the first time I briefly met him and how incredible he was for his first Gold medal.
When you think of it Iggy, Theo, Niewy and Al were all on that team pretty cool collection of legendary Calgary Flames alumni.
Jarome was Truly a great ambassador for hockey, instant lock for HOF and he better have his number retired none of the Forever a Flame BS.
Infact he should receive both honors.

As Iginla picked at his blackened chicken, he was interrupted with "Congratulations" and "We're proud, man" and "Thanks for bringing it home" and requests for autographs. Twelve days earlier he was having dinner with his extended family in a restaurant near Salt Lake City when a waitress told him that the four people at the table across the way were from Calgary. Iginla excused himself and walked over to greet strangers named Ross Purves, Andrew Supersad, Rick Tatla and Jeff Williams, 21-year-olds who had driven to Utah together, painted I AM CANADIAN on their stomachs and bought tickets from a scalper to see Canada tie the Czech Republic in a round-robin game. The conversation was "a 10-minute jam session," as Purves called it, about how cool it was to be on a team with Mario Lemieux and how the Calgary guys had been sleeping in their Ford Taurus in the Comfort Inn parking lot because they couldn't get a hotel room. Iginla took his leave. Later he returned to the table, presumably to say goodbye. "I booked you guys in the Marriott Courtyard, where my family's staying," said Iginla. "Hope you don't mind." Iginla jotted directions to the hotel on a napkin. The room cost $250, which the four guys later discovered had already been paid for.

I wonder if Conroy lined up an assistant to the assistant GM role in the office for Iggy. And the more I think about it. the more I think they're going to announce a number retirement for him on the 30th. The one day contract so he can officially retire a Flame, a new office job, and finally Trelving makes the announcement they're going to hoist #12 up into the rafters as it is only fitting that he hangs out up there with Lanny.
I've mentioned this before on CP, Iggy and his family were seated two tables away from us on a cruise last summer. I dont think most people knew who he was, as the cruise left from Florida.
We went over to say hi, and introduced ourselves as a family from Calgary. He was very gracious, offered to be in a couple of pictures and even asked my son if he had a Flames T-shirt with him, to bring over the next night so he could sign it. My son of course travels with multiple Flames shirts. Classy guy all-around.

Most career Flames goals and points all time but what I think is his greatest stat is the 525 goals as a Flame , nobody in the NHL scored more total goals between his years as a Flame 1996-2013.
Fact checkers can confirm this perhaps

Or Ken King is the only one there with Jarome and he announces that on Wednesday games there'll be 12% off the second slice of Pizza 73 with purchase of two large drinks.

I attended a couple Iggy hockey camps when I was growing up. Most players will make an appearance, sign an autograph, and thats it, but Iggy was out there on the ice with us every day, helping us kids out in whatever way he could. I'll never forget him taking the time to work with me for about 10 minutes on my wrist shot. At the end of the camp, he strapped on the pads and played goalie for our scrimmage. Incredible player, but an even better person.

What a legend. Literally nothing close to his kind of player left in the league. I mean... the guy fought in every round of the playoffs to bolster his team through the ‘04 cup rounds while leading the team in scoring. Massive fights that were symbolic to every round of that playoff. Can anyone think of a single player that’s that kind of warrior in the league today? Even the grinders barely ever fight in the playoffs now. He took over games in every way a player can. Would put the team on his back like no other player could do. He would go through a wall to win.
My favourite player and the classiest guy a team could ever have.
Just a shame we’ll never see a Gaudreau to iginla goal. I get chills just imagining Rick Ball calling that play.
