Yeah, I don't understand the outrage. It was kinda dumb, but Tkachuk likes to get under people's skin. It isn't a big deal at all, no intent to injure... just a young kid being a #### disturber.
Couldn’t have said that better myself thanks

What Tkachuk needs to do from now on is blow kisses to the goons or just stand too close stating "I'm not touching you" or just bury these guys with open ice body checks.
With his already established reputation he sure doesn't need to go looking very far for legitimate idiots to take runs at him which is perfect to draw penalties.
I hope he at least reels it in from now on in as forfeited money at 10k plus for each offense has to hurt anyone's wallet and the ouch ouch to the monies.
I wonder if he realises we do need him to be playing to help this team win, create an edge ? He'll be missed tonight for sure.

Wait, Tkachuk is getting suspended again during tonight's game? Or will it be his alter ego Matthew Tkachuck who will be getting suspended in tonight's game?
These are exactly the types of things he needs to do, it builds a hatred for him that leads to people taking retaliatory penalties. There's a reason he draws the most penalties against in the league! You think he draws them from being Lady Byng like?! No. This reputation will last well into playoff rounds where it will really benefit. #### disturb away Matty.
It really is appalling how soft and weak people are these days over the smallest little things. Like geez.

NHL video says that the spear itself wasn't worthy of suspension except for the fact that Tkachuk was on the bench and he was suspended for a similar offense 10 days earlier.
Yeah him being on the bench and doing that is 100% of the suspension. In a scrum, it’s nothing.
That and, the coverage the Leafs media was treating this like some crime against humanity through the last 17 hours.
Good time to remind of Kadri’s “you’re dead” throat slash to Gio netting a zero game suspension a few years back..

They aren't mutually exclusive though... an act like that is only committed because of the person doing it. Are you suggesting the person committing the act should get a free pass?
Apologies, I should have used the tougue-in-cheek emoji

I'm ok with one game. It wasn't a smart thing to do from the bench. Like people have said in junior you can get away with that crap, in the NHL you can't. Too many eyes, too many cameras, too much press. I hope he learns that he can't get away with that crap and keeps his hard nose and agitating play confined to the ice. If not next suspension will be much worse I guarantee it.

It's a big deal because for the second time in 10 games we are missing a key fixture to the Flames most consistent line. During a losing streak. That's what the big deal is, not Matt Martins feelings.
Pretty spot on if you ask me. The Kadri comparison is pretty good too.

#Flames GM Brad Treliving and LW Matthew Tkachuk just addressed media, together, in Mtl. Both characterized spear in TO as “stupid play.”

#Flames LW Matthew Tkachuk apologized to teammates this morning for first-period spearing incident in Toronto.
For anyone else, that act warrants a fine. But for someone who just got suspended 3 weeks ago for unsportsmanlike conduct, they had no choice but to suspend him.
