You know what? I'm not bothering. It's ludicrous.
I think everyone needs to think back to the kinds of posts that were made about Engelland after his first 20 games with the team.
Outside of a handful of plays on the year, Hamonic has been nothing but solid. Compare that to what we've seen from guys like Brodie or Hamilton. We give guys who have been here a while the benefit of the doubt, but can't wait to trash new additions when they don't come in and play amazing right away.
|
Personally I feel he's been pretty bad. He's had a small handful of games when he's played solid other than that he's been kind of bad and this is a trend from his last full season in NY. I'm starting to get pretty worried about this guy given what the Flames gave up to get him.

Explain why he's bad. What are you seeing that I'm not?

They work their butts off and I really think they're just having fun......everyone expected them to be terrible, now a lot of people keep saying they can't keep it up. Really no pressure on them. Good for them, it's a great story.

Almost like coaching might actually be important...

I expect Hamonic to improve as a flame as time goes on...and yeah nobody liked Engelland or his contract 20 games in.
|
I don't think that's the argument. I think it's more along the lines of Stone being just as good if not better than Hamonic thus far and the steep acquisition cost for Hamonic. Treliving paid 2014-15 price for a 2017-18 Hamonic and so far I'd like our first round pick back.

Well he and Brodie give up what seems like a chance every shift, he looks scared when he gets the puck in his own end too. Just my opinion, I get worried when Hamonic is on the ice and I never got that feeling when Engelland played on the team.

we should probably wait more than 20 games before making that call

I expected them to be pretty good because of Gallant. He's a very underrated coach.
However, I didn't expect them to be anywhere near the division lead. I didn't even expect them to be in a playoff spot. I'd be surprised if they can keep this up the entire year.

I never said it had nothing to do with it. I like Engelland and from what I've seen he's playing well. Good for him.
It is interesting to look back at how many times Engelland got absolutely ripped on this same site when he first signed with the Flames. Over time as he settled down and got more comfortable we saw how valuable he could be in his role.
Why we aren't giving Hamonic time to play like he can before shipping him out of town is really strange. It's early in the season. He has been getting better, he will get better. He's a good player.

LOL, what??? Engelland gave up LOTS of great chances in his day. He's tough as nails, a good leader, and solid in front of his net, but he would get hemmed in his zone on a regular basis because he couldn't get the puck out unless he iced it.
I would regularly get worried when Engelland was facing anything other than bottom 6 forwards.

I thought we overpaid when we acquired him. But I saw plenty of him in Long Island, so I knew he had regressed. Now I'm just annoyed he's proving me right. I'd much rather have a 2014-15 Hamonic.

Flames looking good. Johnny's line will tie it up.
Hamonic will get the game winner.
