More of that please!
Only add the second leading scorer of all-time and a rookie center from the AHL scoring 2.5 points a game!! Lol.

Not sure I want a Versteeg-Monahan-Jagr line. I kind of think that each forward line should have at least one speedy player to mitigate against 3-on-2s and provide a breakaway threat.

Me too, that one hit along the boards particularly. Reminded me of the "That's Using Your Face" meme from Sports Centre, but more like, "That's Using Your Butt".

I just want to point out the play Ferland made on the Versteeg goal:
It's not a "point" on the stat sheet, but that might have been more important than Monahan's absolutely beautiful feed as it could have become a rush the other way if he isn't in such solid cover position to react.
And he scored the game tying goal with some lightning quick hands.
Actually, he had an important screen on the first game-tying goal, too.
I'm not saying it was his best game, but Ferland showed up last night. I know someone will have to come out of the top 9 for Jagr, but maybe until Lazar or Ferland flop out it could be an older player like Frolik? A Stajan-Jankowski-Frolik line could really make us a deep team - you wouldn't even need to call it a "fourth" line as you've got two ostensibly 2nd line talents on it and the worst guy on the line is a former 55 point guy.
But why ever would we want another middle six caliber two-way line, I guess.

He may have learned it from Jagr, but who he almost looked like was Forsberg. I really hope he starts picking up some points. He's awesome.

I fell asleep after the first period as well. I was thinking that Jets squad was pretty solid. Guess I understand the furor now.

Ferland had a great game tonight; not sure why it took GG to put him on the PP instead of Brouwer

If Winnipeg was smart they'd fire Maurice and throw a boat load of money to Darryl Sutter.
He'd instantly make that team a playoff team.

i loved seeing bennett go way out of his way to bury trouba, and yes i know that bennett took a call that resulted in a goal against on the same shift.
trouba is a big fake tough guy, and i like how bennett has decided to run his show at every opportunity.

Scoring Winger
|
Winnipeg is obviously a skilled and talented team. I was worried they’d be hungry after their first game loss. Every little mistake seemed to end up in their net. They’ve had some bad puck luck. They are much better than the scores showed in the first two games. That said, I’m glad the Flames rebound from the first period, or it would be a sad place here. It’s early in the season but I like what the Flames showed last night. Brodie was awesome, and I’m really liking Smith in net.
On the Paul Maurice getting fired, I think you can’t pin those losses solely on him. But you gotta think the leash will be short for him this season. Jets fans must be annoyed over the bad start.

They're not 7-2 or 6-3 bad but they're a bad team that plays bad.
They've got great young talent but play no defence. They're the Atlanta Thrashers still and have a worse coach.

You don't split up one of the best lines in hockey to keep Ferland or Lazar in the top 9. Either one will survive being on a 4th line for a while.

They just signed him to an multi-year extension and they aren't the type of team to pay a guy not to coach for years. I have to think Jets fans are stuck with him for at least this season. Really though I don't understand what Jets management thought would change by extending him. They have never played a good team game under Maurice.

I wonder how much input Jagr had on the lineups and play of the guys last night. He has played with elite players he know what it takes to get to take it to the next level. Bennett is a high skill player with speed and probably should be on the the first line.
Here is an interesting article where Coffey talks about Jagr and his influence on the game. Seems these elite players thought the game on an entirely different level and offers little insight.

Input on the lineups? My bet would be zero. And overall, I think Jagr's influence is going to be more atmospheric than technical.

Sure but it is not entirely out of the question that Jagr could offer technical input on what he saw from the top line after Edmonton's game. Purely speculation on my part for sure.

First load of ridiculously expensive and awful junk food at the Saddledome - check
Jagr jersey ordered - check
Brodie has a super-great game after a wobbly start - check
Flames come from behind and destroy the opponents - check check check
Got so excited, couldn't sleep for half the night - sigh, check...
