I don't think firing the guilty people in this case goes far enough. An error such as this has proven that the issue is deeper than the parties directly involved. They should pull Sportsnets license to cover NHL games altogether and get a different sports network to cover NHL going forward.

Nah, just call it snow flake crap and call me a SJW. Seriously? That's pretty dumb..

again...good luck with Hamilton trying something like that. He got called names. I suppose you should then charge every player on the ice that mutters a nasty comment to the opposing player. This is just nonsense SJW crap.
What you you be offended by tomorrow?

The Flames pay for advertising on Sportsnet do they not? Flames, Stamps, Hitmen and Roughnecks all advertise on RSN

I can't say for sure but that ad space is probably part of the broadcast agreement. I would be surprised if the Flames paid for those spots.

C***k*****r, those guys were doing so well.
If sportsnet is going to be firing people how about they start with:
The Freddie graphics guy
The play is going on but I'll zoom in on the guy that just sat down on the bench guy
John Shannon
The post game sportsnet central crew.

Quite classless and unprofessional. Especially throwing shade on one's perceived intelligence, really?
It was a costly mistake in a heated and emotional game. Just move on.

Maybe you are on to something. Only other plausible reason is that RSN is incompetent.

I love threads like this where people come in and act like they've never insulted or criticized anything in their life.
Unprofessional, sure, rookie mistake, sure, but don't act like we all didn't say as bad or worse things about some of the Flames. Difference here is we all didn't have a hot mic in front of us.
Sure they could/should be punished from an employee/employer basis, especially when they are supposed to be unbiased; but don't act like the things they said are offensive or rude to anyone but the specific player. But its a good thing that player is too much of a dumb dumb to use the internet

You're a riot. Try and keep up though - you just rehashed stuff that has been explained. Was it coming too fast for you to keep up with? Why regurgitate the same stuff? Can't come up with anything new?
You can call me SJW as much as you like until you are blue in the face, but that's not what this is, and I really couldn't care less what you think. I find your posts droll. I have been accused of many things, but a SJW is not one of them... but thanks, I will add that one to the list!
Oh, and what gave you the idea that I was offended by someone calling Dougie stupid? My last name is not Hamilton, and I don't have any emotional attachment. Why the heck would I find it offensive? Please explain. Are you really just grasping at straws to stir the pot here and make me angry or something? You need to try way harder dude - not even close to working.

I actually wasn't trying to equate them as being a contractor - I just assumed some sort of affiliation. At any rate, if they are indeed separate entities and one is not a client of the other, then for sure that isn't workplace harassment - just a stupid disparaging comment made that I am assuming will just result in a talking to and nothing more.
And to be clear, at no time did I say this guy deserves to be fired over it. In fact, I stated the opposite.

I guess I can weigh in here since I am an HR Manager - if one employee said this to another employee, I don't think you could consider it harassment. Inappropriate conduct in the workplace, sure, and they would be written up for it, but that is about as far as it goes.
There is nothing that was said about Dougie that crosses the line into the protected grounds, there is no repeated incidents or attacks on him. It really falls short of what we would consider to be harassment.
You would have to take into account the public nature of the stream, but if "Mr. Flames" didn't know he was being recorded and didn't do this deliberately or maliciously, I don't think you would have much of a case against him.
If SNET wanted to fire him, they would have a much stronger case for letting him go because of the damage he has done to their brand rather than the "harassment".
