He'd still be our best, and fastest centre. There are good players at this draft, just not ones that are poised to be supremely elite.

Patrick, Liljegren, Vilardi, or Tippett would all be great additions. Patrick or Tippett are the two I'd like to see as Flames.

And yes, I know he'll be a decent player, but from everything I've heard he's a level below someone like Matthews.

I don't watch junior hockey so I won't argue if anyone disagrees, just going off what I've seen other people say.

The reason it sucks though is cause if he's not a player who can step up and make a real impact in his first season or two (a Gaudreau level impact), it'll be 3 or 4 years until he does. Brodies contract will be up, Gio will be an anchor and Gaudreaus contract will be nearing its end. We'll need a smart GM to handle that situation.

We don't need more centres and Nolan is a righty. If we drafted him he would likely play on the right:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Brouwer
Bennett - Backlund - Nolan
Tkachuk - Jankowski - Frolik

I can't take anyone's judgment of this player seriously if they don't even know his name.

His name is Nolan Patrick, not Patrick Nolan.

Might as well start getting it right now.

You can always listen to the coverage on Fan960 while you do something else.

Sort of OT and I didn't want to start a thread, but should we be concerned that the team has actually looked better with Gaudreau out of the line-up and that he was under performing while he was in the line-up?

Don't get me wrong, I think Gaudreau is awesome, but I am just wondering if he is the right top line LW for Gulutzan to apply his methods.

Gaudreau was finally starting to turn it around before he got injured and looked like our only capable forward outside of Backlund and Frolik.

Define "better". I disagree we've been better we have just gotten better goaltending. We were out played in 2 periods last night badly. Out played against Buffalo. I don't think much has changed aside from goaltending.

No because (a) teams often play better as a group without their best player, but it's also just as often a temporary thing; (b) Monahan still is not as good without Gaudreau; and (c) There's nothing saying Gaudreau will underperform when he returns. His injury doesn't stop him from staying in shape, he's getting a mental break and he will be itching to play.

GG's methods involving shorter passes and more unit zone entries should work better for Gaudreau. IMO it's a matter of execution, not the actual system. The fact that the team has perhaps improved in its execution of it will help Gaudrau, not hurt him.
